My Royal engine starter's insert has become quite hard with age.
Short of buying a new one, is there anything I can apply to it to recoup it's flexability and gripping power?

ED, try the ones from Miller. Tower carries them at a reasonable price. They have super grip and don't wear out easily as the sullivan's. Plus good mold quality to boot............

Don't bother with the Sullivan standard grey insert. It wears out way too fast. I've have the upgraded Sullivan and Miller inserts and they all work great.

They used to be color coded. I have 3 different color ones. I know my blue one won't mess up my plastic spinners and I believe my pink one will. A LHS worker told me that and I thought he was telling me this so I would buy more than one but he was right.

Thanks Folks,
Looks like I'm off to my LHS. Dang, I was hoping that kereosene, acetone, or a small cobalt explosion would soften this stuff up. Oh well ----

Buy a Sullivan silicone rubber insert - they are the best.
