Here is some pics of my new Hangar 9 F4U-Corsair.
The engine is an OS 91 FX.
Can you help me with the installation of muffler,so as not to cut the cowl and not to ruin the scale
"Whistling Death" look?
Thank's...

Kostas:

How about a nice collector ring?

Haw.

Almost any of the "Pitts" mufflers should fit in there nicely.

It's probably just the perspective, but your pictures make the engine look about 1.5 cm off to the right.

Yes,the engine is not located upright,it is in an angle-->to the right.
Do you think that a pitt style muffler whould fit?
Also "many" people in RCU say that pitts mufflers do not work well, because in addittion to the stock mufflers, they do not produce enough back pressure.
What do you think?
Here is a link in Towerhobbies in a pitts muffler for my OS 91 FX.

Kostas:

You have chosen an engine that many have complained about, mostly fuel feed problems.

Of the two mufflers you indicated the "Inverted" muffler would probably be better on fuel pressure, having only ont outlet. But unless you remount your engine the exhaust stack will come out at the top left, in line with the cylinder.

That is a beautiful radial engine. I remember flying out of DaNang on C-124 -- that had four 4360 engines. On take off they ran extra gas thru the engine for cooling. Flames coming out of the stacks and the cowl flats wide open showing the exhaust glowing red. At altitude the cowls were closed, the engines leaned up and synced, and you could see the blue exhaust jets coming out of the stacks.

BTW that was 4360 cubic inches - four rows of nine cylinders. Ole Shaky could chug along at probably 120 knots, big cavernous airplane. They used them to haul UH-1s into Viet Nam. Quite a sight seeing a wrecker truck pulling a helicopter out the front clamshell doors. Looked like Ole Shaky was having a baby.

Cheers,

Chip

Thank's for the help.
I want to ask if i can use the stock muffler without the buffle.
You know the OS 91 FX has a BIG muffler and also a piece that rises power.
Can i remove it and use the muffler without it?

OS makes a muffler extension which moves the muffler out by 35mm

I don't know enough about mufflers to know if it is OK to remove the tube that makes the muffler big.

If you don't mind strap on mufflers perhaps this would work.

Tatone may have one that works also, at mecoa.com.

You might want to consider the OS slimline sport scale muffler. It is Tower Hobbies part number LXFG94. It will fit both the 40 and 46 OS and can be adapted to other engines.

Hi!
Use whatever muffler you like and what fits.
I would not recommend the slimline as it is no muffler only some kind of exhaust deflector (Lots of noise and bad for power). The tatone or J-tec is also rather bad at it's heavy and hasn't got enough volume. Lots of volume is good! The more the better.
As for modifying an existing OS muffler...go ahead it will of course work but you might loose some power and get more noise.
As for the Bisson, Pitts silencers. These silencers work very well but if you experience bad engine behavior, one of the exhaust openings could be shut for more pressure.
Have you checked the Krumscheid silencers?

Hi!
Volume is ...hm?...what's inside the silencer...the empty space...the more space the gases have to expand in the the better.

Regards!
