Hey Guys,
Does anybody know who to contact for GMS engine problems or parts? I bought a GMS .61 last year and have a busted piston ring. My local HS and tower say they no longer carry or service these engines. Because I know someone will ask, I'll discribe the ring failure. After about three gallons of fuel, I noticed a sudden loss in compression. The motor ran fine up to this point, however it did like to run a little rich. When I pulled the piston out, two pieces of the ring fell on the table and the third I popped out of the groove with my fingernail. The cylinder does not appear damaged, but I can't locate a ring. Wonder if an OS would fit?
Thanks,
Marvin

Tower does indeed carry GMS and here is the link to the piston
ring for the GMS 61:

Hobby Services does the service work on GMS.

I would suspect as GMS and many other Chinese engines come off the same assembly line that one of the other brand rings will work. They are also clones of OS.

Tower is showing very few parts for the GMS line and no rings.
Are they going to kill it?
Are they going to kill it?

Am I missing something here?

Mike,
Something must be wrong in the way their database is set up? When you do a search for GMS 61 and then click on parts, it doesn't bring up very much in the way of relevant parts.
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=GMEG1061&P=Z
Yet to do a search for GMS 61 piston, it brings up the piston, wrist pin and ring.
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=++&search3=Go
Cannot beat the price of that ring?
Then to do a search for GMS 61 parts.... it brings up everything.
Enjoy,
Jim

OK. Thats good. I knew I wasnt crazy because I was looking
right at a whole selection of parts for the GMS 61 and they all
showed as being in stock. It looks like they have nearly all the
parts for that motor in stock except for the crankcase.
I dont know where marv422 got his information but
it is clearly wrong. Tower still sells and supports
the GMS line and Hobby Services does the repairs.
It wouldnt make sense for Tower to kill the GMS line
since the same factory makes the Tower engines
as well. Of course a lot of things that GP/Tower
does dont make sense but thats another argument.
So marv422 just go to the link I posted and order
you a new ring. Dont worry about the bogus info
you got in an email.

Thanks for the help. Placed the order today. Wish I had saved the E-mail, Tower DID say that they were not going to support these engines in the future. They sent me an address to contact in China (snail mail) not even an E-mail address!
Thanks,
Marvin

Marvin,
Could you please share with us that address in China?
There's been a lot of mystry behind the company in China that makes the GMS, Super Tiger, and Tower engines.
This address you have will most likely be a Hong Kong one and just be a distributor but we will try to find out.
Enjoy,
Jim

does really surprises me anymore.
Why they would tell you that while they still have parts
in stock is beyond me.

Don't know why, but all the parts aren't listed on the web page if you use the cross reference. ALL parts for current-production GMS engines are carried. Here's the stock number and suggested retaip price for the .61 piston ring:
GMEG6370 611031 PISTON RING 61 RING $4.99
Also, if you type in "GME piston ring", it comes up. Or even just "piston ring". Their search engine really is very good.
Also...don't know who would say the engine won't be supported soon. It's certainly not slated for discontinuation any time soon, as far as we know.
