The 13 inch may be slightly large, but the 12s should be fine. That engine was designed to turn large props at low RPM to keep the noise level down. On the pipe it will probably turn about 9K with those props. If you notice it even has a dampening motor mount to hold noise down. All these things were used on pattern planes before everyone went to the large 4 stroke engines and larger planes.

For anyone who thinks a tuned pipe is only used to get absolute maximum HP then check out how the Hanno pipe is supposed to be set up. It gives a huge boost in HP up to a certain point and then drops like a stone. In this case the pipe is used as a governor to stop revs increasing from any unloading due to downlines to hold the speed constant. In a climb the prop load goes up which slows the engine slightly and the pipe comes back on again. This is precisely the way tuned pipes have been used in CL stunt for a long time.

The specs in the second pic show how on anything smaller (less load) than about a 13x6 the piped engine is slower than an open exhaust.

Edit to add....ohhhhh, I see that engine is in Cairns

tHAT ENGINE WAS DESIGNED FOR PATTERN AIRPLANES AND IT WON'T PERFORM TO IT'S ABILITY ON A BOAT

As a benchmark, O.S. would suggest an APC 12 x 12 propeller. You'll get about 9,600 RPM when it's on the pipe and on the ground. This engine has a pump system, so you lean the high-speed needle as far as possible without RPM drop or detonation and leave it there.

Of course, you'll need to adjust the tuning based upon how it winds up performing in the air.

We've run the engine on Omega 10% and 15% nitro fuels, and many have used fuels with 20% oil and 20% nitro very successfully. The engine was designed for F3A Pattern. O.S. sought the input of Hanno Prettner on the design and testing of the engine, that's why it's called the "Hanno".
