Default Saito 56 idle problems

I have a new 56 with about a gallon of fuel through it now (20/20YS blend) and I cannot get this thing to idle low enough to not pull the plane around when sitting on the ground. It will idle down to about 2500 for about 10 seconds and then sputter and quit. Ive played with the needle setting, and changed the glow plug to an OS type F all to no avail. Any advise from you Saito guys would be much appreciated.

I lean out and peak the idle mixture. Then richen the mixture enough for a good transition back to high speed.

MS:

It's also possible you don't have a big enough prop. With a 12x6 MAS you should be able to get the idle down around 2000-2100 rpm.

Your .56 should sit there ticking over like Bill said. Is your fuel consumption high? Mine was until I got the low speed needle valve set right. The APC 12x6 is also an excellent prop for your engine.

Just about anything you'd ever want to know about the basics of setting up Saito engines can be found at:-

Good luck.

Thanks for all the advice fella's. I got it to idle properly today by continuing to lean the low speed needle as sugested. The motor transitioned perfectly even when it would not idle, so I thought I had the low speed lean enough....I was wrong as it turns out.

Once I got mine tuned correctly, it sips fuel and could probably go 20 minutes on my 8 oz tank. I flew mine a year without touching the needle valves again. Gotta adjust the valves regularly, but that is easy.
