Default OPS 1.80 Engine

Guys,

My flying buddy has an old OPS 1.80 Glow engine in an Extra that he purchased at a swap. For the last month he's been tinkering with this engine trying to get it tuned. Unfortunately, he/we have made little progress. It sure would help knowing how to tune the low/high ends of this engine as the "trial-and-error" method isn't progressing.

He's now replaced this engine so he can fly the extra, but is looking for another airframe to put the OPS in once he gets it tuned.

Can anyone explain how to set the needles on this engine in order to properly tune?

Thank you!

-Alex

If it is like the one I had it has a walboro carb or a copy with a high and low needle .I set mine like any other 2 stroke engine did the high first then backed it off a little then set the low end to achieve a good transition and idle. The engine ran well just wasn't quite enough for the plane I had it in.
Mine was marked H for the high speed and L for the low speed.
I sold it to a friend of mine and he still has it plus the book ,if you can't get it let me know and i can see what we can do about getting a copy of the instructs to you.

If the engine has been sitting around for a long period of time the gaskets may need to be changed in the carb.any leaks of any sort and it won't tune or pump right .

Thanks Cyberwolf!

I passed this information along and hopefully its what he needed. I was unaware of the stamps on the needles as he was trying to tune while in the cowl (yeah, bad idea in this case). Hopefully this engine is similarily marked.

In concern to the OPS 1.80 I have one on my ultrasport 1000 never could get it to run long enough to fly. When I got deployed I left it with one of the guys on the feild he changed the fuel I'll try to contact him and see what he went to I'm thinking to a heli fuel 30 and they say he cant get it over 2/3 rd throttle his words to damn fast. If I can get a hold of them I'll let you know exactly what fuel and set up. Sometimes difficult from Iraq something about bombs and communication sats. don't get along. make a couple of round around the field for me.

5% nitro is the absolute top for the 30 Maxi.
