Hi, I have a nice OS46fx in my Spitfire and was wondering if there is a dummies guide out there for engines. I know the bigger the number the larger the engine..right?
A OS .60 is larger than a .46 etc?
What besides OS are good. I have 2 trainers that need engines in them and I dont want to go all out for them. My CAP 232 40 series needs an engine too and was wondering what you guys suggest? Budget is an issue also here.
Your thoughts are welcome and appreciated gents. :stupid:

Hey neighbor, the .46 means it's .46 of a cubic inch and a .60 is .6 of a cubic inch and a 100 is one cubic inch etc. Irvines, SuperTigre at least they were, Saitos, YS, Fox, Webra, PAW, MDS, Enya, Laser and K&B are all great engines. Any others, it is a crap shoot whether or not you get a good engine.

Some of the folks on this site can take a motor that I would use as a paper-weight and make it run like a top! In other words being a student of engine tuning, break-in etc. goes along ways..
I can get 'em going okay but I try to buy higher end stuff because I am not a master tuner.
If someone gave me $80 bucks to buy one 40/46 sized motor (New) I would by the TT-Pro 46.
If I had $130 to spend I would get an Irvine 53, hands down the best motor for the price I have ever had!
What brand is your CAP? I just ordered the Cap 232 (.40) from Hangar 9. I will put either the Irvine 53, or my Saito 65 4 cy. in it-
Obviously you will get a wealth of info. on this topic, but remember that using the "search" function on here will give you more info. than you even want to read!!
Try:
"Best 46 engine"
"Which engine"
" TT pro 46"
"Irvine 53"
etc...
Hope all works out,
james

i have two gms engines , one is a 76 and is on my 4* 60 and the other a 61 on a gp big stik 60( have not put this in the air yet ) . the 76 has plenty of power for the 4* though i have trouble with the transition from idle up to full throttle . i am sure this is a minor adjustment that needs to be made . i have more than 20 flights on it and i am very satisfied with the power . started right out of the box with no adjustment . the one on the stik runs great , just waiting for the wind to die down to test fly it .

I'd go for a Thunder Tiger .46 Pro over the GMS..... for pretty much the same price.... You'll find far more users (which equals more help onthe engine) and a better engine.....It will be perfect for those trainers..... If you want to spend some extra money I'll agree with Razor that you can't go wrong with the Irvine!
As for your Cap.... You could use either of those twp strokers.... but If ya really want good aerobatic perfpmance get a Saito .72.....It's more money but it's got a bgger bang too.... Don't waste your money on a used Saito .65 (since they don't make them anymore and they're heavier and less powerfull than a .72)
