Default Webra 50

The Webra 50 likes to rev and likes low nitro 5%, and plenty of oil. Use a 10x6, 11x5 etc. It has a Dykes ring so don't even think about letting it get lean. It's very smooth, rarely deadsticks and is powerful and light. Many think think it is the ultimate 50 sized engine, excluding Jetts and other Rolls Royce priced engines.

Default webra .50 speed

Hello, are there two Webra .50's? 'Cause I just got one from Horizon (Speed .50 GT) and it aint ringed! It's ABN, and the "instructions" are rather lacking w/Webras(got a speed.61, same thing) I'm breaking the .50 in on 10% Omega, the same fuel I intend to fly it with.Using the prop sizes same as hobbsy, it runs great! (no tach figures yet tho...) Does Webra still make a "Blackhead" .40 or 50 or .61? Two different .50's? thanks.

Default Ringed

I went to the Webra website and if I correctly deciphered the coding the Speed 50 has a Dykes ring and the Heli engine does not. Dykes rings are at the very top edge of the piston and are nearly invisible. Three blade would be like a 10x5.

I fly both the Webra 40 and 50 Speed. They are both ABN and that is one reason I bought them. They come with 1 small instruction sheet (white) and 1 small safety sheet (pink). I use a 11x6 MAS prop on the 50 and get 13,400 rpm (max) and a 10x6 wood prop on the 40. The 50 has somewhere between 200 and 300 flights in a Kougar using 10% Cool Power. The engine is very good and with the stock baffleless muffler is very noisey. If there is anything you want know from these sheets let me know.

Default Ringed

I pulled the muffler off of my Speed 50 today and it definately has a Dykes ring as does my 120, my Webra .91 appears to be ABC or ABN, no ring. I suspect that my .61f has a Dykes ring also. Mr. Motor could tell us for sure if he sees this.

Boy Hobbsy I'm realy going to confuse you.
Webra makes two SPD50s, the SPD50GT, article 1025gt+s an ABN (no ring). I have 2, one current and one about 10 years old. They also make a SPD 50 article 1025. It's the same engine with a Dykes ring.
I have three 120s, all have dykes rings.
I have one 90, it has a single ring (not dykes).
I have 5 SPD 40s, not one is the same. I'm beginning to think these guys are worse than Garafoli as far as changing the engine every month.

The 40s are as follows:

One is a 1034RC with a dykes ring & no muffler lugs, turns a 9/6APC at 17500 on a muffled pipe

One is a 1034RC ABCorABN & no muffler lugs, turns a 9/6APC at 17500 on a muffled pipe

One is a 1034AQ ABC (quickee 500) with racing Dynamix(no metering) and muffler lugs. (turns a 9/6APC at 19000 on 15% with an Ultrathrust) I'm running it on a Predator.

One is a 1034Q ABC (quickee 500) with a TN (old style) and muffler lugs.

One is a 1034P ABC (pylon) with a full Dynamix and muffler lugs.

Maybe we'll hear from JAKA or Downunder also but later.

It's 3:30am in Sweden and only God knows what hour it is downunder.

djlyon, that's very interesting...about the various .40's I mean...I love engines too, got some going back to '46 or '47(c/l type) Do you know about Supertigres? An older club member gave me a box full of "stuff", and there are 4 older S T engines in the collection...Anybody know how old a V .60 is? It says "chromed" under the left lug, has a square carb. A friend told me that the old Webra Blackhead had needle bearings in the rod??? I remember it was THE engine to have in the early 70's for pattern. Is the "Dykes" ringed Webra .50 still made? I still fly a K+B .40 (#8011)w/perry pump+ big carb. dykes ringed...That reminds me! I think I'll start annother thread (about bushed con. rods, wrist pin end) Good "talking" w/ all you...Happy Landings...

My ten year old .50 GT is ABN, but I do know that they made a ringed version before the GT was introduced.

Default Webra Liners

According to the 1997 and 2000 Webra mini catalogs the Speed 28, 32, 40 (sport), 50 Aeros are all ABN. The Webra 61 Aero, the Speed 61 F Aero, and 120 Aero are Stahl/Ring. The Webra 61 F Aero (Langhuber) and racing 80F Aero competition are abc. My Webra Speed 40 and 50 Aeros are ABN and I bought them from Nat'k Hobby in Ga. in the late 90's. I also own a Webra 500 Quickiee 40 and it is ABN with the slide gate carb.

Default Webra 50

My Webra 50 is about one year old and definitely has a Dykes ring, my .61 f is newer than that, I haven't checked it yet. Would my .91 be ABN, it has a small area around the top of the piston that looks different but does not appear to be a ring. My 50 also has the baffled muffler but is still a little loud.

Your 50 Webra is completely different than most. My 50 muffler was riveted and not epoxied and after a few flights the 3 rivets came loose. Nat'l Hobby would not re-place so I re-riveted and used JB Weld and it has stayed together since. The webra 40 speed muffler is identical except it is not riveted and only epoxied however it has stayed together. Neither had baffles.

Hobbsy, I've seen ABC+N engine pistons with a small oil groove cut in about .100 or so below the "crown"...Also, I believe some pistons are relieved a thou. or two right near the top. Perhaps to try and prevent the edge from catching on the top edge of a large port like the exh... Not too sure on that one tho... Anybody else notice that?

grove
All my webra speeds that are not dykes or standard rings (ringless) have the grove , even my little 2cc speedie. I've always asummed it was an oil capture grove to wipe the cylinder.

Proptop
I have a lot of old Supertigres and V60 rings a bell but I can't place it.
