Anyone have any experience with Laser engines?
I am mostly interested in the larger V-twins (240 & 300).

Jon, I have a Laser 180 Vee twin, it is an excellent engine, it is predecessor to the 200, It turns a 16x8 three blade at 7,800, the carbs are above the top of the fuse and yet it still has great fuel draw. At the time I got mine the radial mount was optional and did not come with it, I made a diamond shaped mount for it so I could adjust the low speed needles, the radial mount would be much better.

Nice to hear from you.

I am considering the GP Patty Wagstaff Extra and would like an engine with "soul". Sound is important to me, and a small gas engine just does not cut it in that respect. Perhaps Laser is the way to go?

Default Sound

The laser V twin definitely has a neat sound, somewhat reminiscent of an American V8 with dual exhausts.

Default Laser V's

I have a 300 V.

Buy one if you are a soul brother. You will not be disppointed.

Oh, and they don't need nitro to get up and boogie. Important with these larger 4 stroke glow motors, where the additional cost of nitro becomes a factor.

Enjoy.

For some pictures of the 200V and 300V take a look at my website:

or direct to

Have not run them yet, so can not give you real performance figures.

Default Laser engines

Hi Jon, Hobbsy, Fiery, Hans,
I am planning to build the Proctor Albatros. I will put the LASER 300 Vee in it. Yesterday I visited a friend, who is a carpenter, at his workshop. We build a test-stand (beautiful work on his part, by the way) and got the LASER running for the first time. Oh what an engine. He himself is a Harley buff. And he instantly loved the sound of that Laser. Now I am planning to build as big an exhaust as possible to enhance the low frequencies. Any experience with that?
I tried to use my old starter on it - but that was a joke. Not a chance to turn the thing. So I hand-proped ist. More scale, anyhow, isn't it. And after a few initial throws where I thought it might not start or something is wrong, it fired. It ran smoothly from the beginning. I had opened the needles four full turns as described in the manual. I slowly turned them in one whole turn. And it idled just beautifully and responded instantly when I opened the throttle. Not a caugh or anything. Very low vibration. So from those few first minutes I can say: I totally recommend that engine. It is a piece of art!
Any suggestions as to fuel, oil, lubrication, service intervalls (rocker adjustment and so on) are welcome.
All the best, Martin
