Default RE: Super Tigre 2000 - 3000 Engines

I am using a ST 3000 in my Ohio RC Chipmunk. The ST 3000 was a good match for the Airplane but like so many others I spent a lot of time trying to tune the carburetor and still had difficulties with it. So I bought the MDS Carb and that solved the problem. As ErnRemy said I had to use a sleeve to properly install the Carburetor. I followed ErnRemy's suggestion and it works great. If you are having difficulties with your ST 3000 Carb and want to replace it look up ErnRemy's posting above. It works well. Thanks ErnRemy!

Another stinger with the ST 2500, no problems whatsoever(straight from the box) after 30+ flights in the last year. Zinger 18x6 or 7, using ST fuel, 10% nitro(I think-hard to remember), not sure on the oil. I don't worry much about mid-range, it's either go full bore or landing...

It's a 1.4 right? Wondering how a G23(zenoah) would do? I think it's a 1.6?

I use medium fuel line on my 3000. I believe that the large line would be very sloppy and cause more problems then what it would cure. If you are interested in getting more fuel into the carb, I would try to drill out the clunk and the fitting that the fuel line connects to on the Carb. I have read where this has been done successfully, and has cured carb problems. I would not do anything until I saw how the 2300 runs. Friends of mine who have large tigres have had no difficulties with there carbs. They think that mine was an exception.

I've been running a ST 3000 in an Ultra Hots and have had some problems. Cured most of them, I'm using a Moki 3600 carb that I turned down to fit, a K&B 1L plug and my own mix of fuel 11% castor 0 nitro. With a 20-6 prop this engine puts out! It didn't seem to run real good on the fuel I mix for my Moki 1.8 (16% castor no nitro) guess the ST didn't like the extra oil. My only problem now is that the engine still has a lot of vibration. Ibought the engine new and it's never been in the ground and everythings been balanced and rebalanced. Jack

Jack....

....I had a big problem with vibration with my 3000, but traced it to a miss-drilled
aluminum spinner backplate. It literally vibrated my plane apart. I'm going to give
it another go when the weather breaks. I'm going to try some 5% nitro fuel in it,
with 18% oil....castor/syn blend....it's actually my Rossi fuel, but I don't think it
will make much difference over the 15% nitro fuel....all PowerMaster.

I don't really buy the idea that the extra oil is detrimental to the big Tigers, I was
using a Fox Miracle plug.

Dave, the extra oil does no harm to the engine but does make them missfire and blubber in the midrange.

Thanks, Hobbsy....

....I have the "makin's"....I could mix up a batch of straight methanol with 10%
nitro, and 10% castor.

I have three 3000's, all used...and I tore then down seeking answers to the
vibration issues. Two of the cranks were bent slightly. I put together my "A"
engine with the best parts, still using the Magnum carb. One of them came
without a carb....one had a carb on it that looked like it came off some .35
r/c Tiger....and as I remember, the third one had the stock (troublesome)
carb. They also have that sleeve in the carb spigot. It doesn't appear that
S.T. ever really had a proper carb....of the proper size for the engine.

Well my 2 cents
I have got the 2000 running on a tuned pipe in a OLD OLD Skyward 120 (High wing bird that has enough room for an adult cat inside!)
Low nitro, BIG prop, stock carb and simple starts when she is primed, flying with tons of torque and great reliable idle for touch and goes all day long.
What surprises me is how fuel efficient this old engine is. She is set up for floats as well so this will be fun come summer time.
I also have a 91 and 51 and really enjoy this product

All the best

I have the choice of a NIB ST2000 made in Italy or a ST2300 from China. Which engine will give the best service? The cost is about the same.
Thanks

The old 2000 was a very easy handling engine just extremely heavy for a 120. The new 2300 is a pound lighter more powerful and is almost as user friendly.

A true 2000 is a 120.

There is also a 2500 in the same case. You have to look on the lug to see which it is

Do not use Super T fuel in the 2300. the instructions say very clearly to use 18% lube fuel in the 2300. At least the 2300s from China that I have say that.

If you use an aftermarket muffler on the 2300 you need to squeeze the muffler outlet tubes down so the outlet area is about the same as on the Super Tiger muffler that comes with the 2300. this will give you enough back pressure so the 2300 will run well all through the throttle range. this is how my Chinese 2300s work anyway.

I use 10% Omega fuel with a Fox long idle bar plug for break-in and an OS "F" plug after break-in. this works great on my 2300s.

i still am wondering what type of fuel to run in these engines, it seems like everyone is running something different.
i even contemplated running 4 stroke fuel with 15 percent oil. this would be in the 2500 to 4500 engines

In the SuperTigre S-2000, S-2500, and larger engines, you must use a fuel with no less than 15% oil content (100% castor is recommended) until the engine is well-broken in. After that, you can use a fuel with 10%-12% oil content (100% castor STRONGLY recommended). Nitro can be 0%-10%, but 5% usually works out best. These engines were all made in Italy, and the fuel recommendations are those of the SuperTigre factory.

I used to run Morgans Omega ST blend fuel. The trick to making them run good was to use the fuel blended for them.
