I am currently assembling my Venus 40 ARF.
And,
my girlfriend will buy me for Christmas, what else ?, THE ENGINE![X(]
What engine do you suggest?
And also what prop to use?
Thank you all,
and Merry Christmas to all of you guys.

Kostas1 the YS is a great engine however plumbing it Fuel lines and supply much more envolved than any of the others and is also the most expensive martin
A YS .63 is the perfect engine. Mount it inverted and and go fly it.

Hi all there!
Thank you for answering!
Am,
i've ordered 3 or 4 times from Centralhobbies.
Great guys,
next day shipping and very quick on shipping and delivering.
You know,
the YS costs 240$.
If you also calculate that i am not the expert on tuning 4strokes especially YS's...........
Anyway,
do you have a pic/diagram that shows how to connect the fuel lines when you have a cowled engine?
I think of a T's-Dots setup.
What do you think?
Thank you for answering!

I voted for the OS.55AX, but it was very close between it and the YS.63. Frankly, if I had it to do again, I'd probably vote for the YS .63.
However, I wouldn't expect the YS.63 to match the raw power output of the OS.55AX. Still, the YS.63 should have more than enough power and, like someone else pointed out, you can mount the YS.63 inverted and not worry in the least about tank placement, etc.
The YS instructions provide you with all of the tuning expertise that you will need. Don't forget that the YS.63 really runs best on YS 20/20 blend fuel.
Fuel dots would be the way to go. In fact, you just reminded me that I need to order some fuel dots for my larger Venus and YS 1.10 or 1.40 Sport (can't decide on which to use). Thanks!

On the Venus 40? There is no way i could recommend a YS110 for the Venus 40. The Venus II would be a good match for the YS110 but not and i repeat not for the Venus 40.
Dennis
I fly mine at the moment with a Magnum 61 4 stroke and while underpowered it is not underpowered by much. I use a 13x6 APC narrow prop on it and it does quite well. A buddy of mine flys his with a saito 72 and it's quite awesome.
I have been considering a new engine for mine myself and was contemplating the YS63 or the OS70 Surpass. Only about $30 difference in price between Tower and Central and both engines are extremely well regarded.
I've decided on the OS simply because I'm not sure i want a YS that small; I think I'd rather the 110 but obviously not for the Venus 40.
The venus is a fantastic airplane by all means but I wouldn't put a 2 stroke in it. I did try a Super Tigre 51 and it flew it very fast with an 11x6 prop. The RPM was quite high, much higher than my 4 stroke. Of course you can always pull the stick back on the throttle but the nature of an engine does come into play in these things. I want power but not speed and I feel like for something like the Venus a 4 stroke provides that best. With that said the 63 is a bit of a revver so the RPMs are supposed to be a bit higher on it which was another reason I chose the OS.
I've also seen it flown with 50/46 sized 2 strokes and the plane just stops being "Majestic" and becomes a little red rocket. It still flies great with those engines but it doesnt' fly the same as it does with a good 4 stroke muscling it through sky.
Best of luck.

Hi there!
First of all MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Am,
a few days ago i glued the stab and fin in place.
Now i am waiting for my order on Tower to come so as to complete it.
I haven't decided for an engine yet.
You know,
i am considering the OS 55AX just because my LHS sells it for ONLY 125EUROS>
That's a price that cann't be beat.
BUT,
because there is always a "BUT",
i was thinking of buying a 4str. engine.
My 1st.
And i didn't want to mess with a YS just because i don't know how to tune it,it requires high % nitro, and i don't have a friend that can help me set it up right.
Just some thoughts, before the final decision.
Ah,
i must add that i am a sport flier as for today.
I have a UCanDo 46 and i learn 3d.
But,
i like sport flying a lot.
Especially when high alfa knife is performed!!!!!!!
Pettern? Heeehe,i don't even seen one flying pattern.
Anyway,
with an OS 70FS Surpass will it hover???

Kostas,
Why did you not include the MVVS .49 in the poll?
It is also available to you, you know.

I'm with DAR --Saito 72 or MVVS 49. Maybe DAR can get you a deal. Remember the MVVS is low nitro.....
I can get a somewhat decent prop hang out of my magnum 61 RFS but the control surfaces on the venus aren't big enough to manage it during a hover. The 70 might have enough power to do it at 2/3 throttle (I would expect) but I wouldn't expect to be able to control it. I would however expect some pretty awesome knifedge out of it.
I actually made my order via Tower last night; they had a combo deal where you buy the OS70 and get a $10 gift cert for free. PLus they have a rebate going on any OS 4-stroke for another $10 cash or $20 gift cert.
Can't beat that...

Go with a Saito FA-72 and a APC12x8, and you will be very happy. Runs forever, always starts, no hassle!!!! I have been flying the saito 72 for years, really loved it. Buddy of mine is still flying that engine with the Venus. Great combo!!! You can also mount a Saito FA-82a, but it WILL be overpowered.
OS FS-70 should do fine as well, just I don't have experience with that engine.

A well tuned YS.63 will put a good whoopin' all over an OS .70. The OS will run better on lower than 20% nitro fuel, but it won't equal the YS .63 at much except idling.
Are you aware that a Saito .91 weighs less than an OS .70? Seriously.
Ed Cregger
Sure, the saito 91 is lighter than the OS70 (yippee!) - but it is also ~$60 more. I like Saito Engines but their price point is higher than I find acceptible for my sport applications. Point of reference; I'm cheap - most of my new engines are Magnums and they are pretty nice sport engines and I've been able to buy them at significant discounts here and there where as I've never seen a Saito "on sale" (remember, I'm cheap). I already have 2 91s that aren't in use; that just wouldn't be the right engine for the Venus in my opinion. The YS63, OS70, Saito 72/82 - those are the perfect choices for the 40 sized Venus.
To be honest the OS 70 is a bit of a splurge for me as I could get the Magnum 70 for a few bucks less and I'm sure it would likely perform just as well. I have a lot of older OS motors though and I like them quite a bit. I'm hoping that this new 70 will follow the tradition. I've had a few Saitos here and there but mostly second hand. My flying buddy flies mostly Saitos and they all run great so by all means go for the Saito if you want.

The whole point of this hobby is to enjoy yourself. If the OS.70 makes you smile, then I'm all for it. Besides, I've owned the OS .70 before and liked it a lot myself. It would be nice if OS could lighten the engine up a bit, but it isn't a tragedy if they don't.
Myself, I would go for the Saito .72 or 82 myself, if I didn't succumb to the YS .63, that is. I didn't seriously mean to use the Saito .91. That would be a wild combo indeed.
I have zero experience with the Magnum .70 as yet. I like my .30, .52, .61, .80 and .91 Magnum four-strokes well enough. I don't think that you can go wrong with either of them.
Ed Cregger
I've got a few magnum 4 strokes and I'm pleased with all of them. 2 91s that both run like tops as well as a 61 that is extremely light (and in the Venus at the moment) but just a smidgen low on power. The OS 70 should put me right where I want to be. I've also got an old pre-surpass OS 120 that may one day find its way into a Venus 2. It runs great and pulls around my 12 pound 4*120 with authority. I've also got 2 old OS 61 4 strokes, much like the 70 they aren't very light but unlike the magnum 61 - even as old as they are they put out some very nice power.
I shied away from the YS simply because I Wasn't sure I wanted a YS that small - I'd rather have it in something larger and I felt the 63 would limit my options since I don't particularly dig the smaller planes (unless we're talking electric).

as I said previously - I have a seen the Venus with the saito 72 and 82 and it is very well powered with either.
Tbose36 is it possible to post some pics?
Guys thank's for replying.
I have another question.
Imagine installing on a Venus 40 the OS 55AX and on the other Venus 40 a Saito 72/OS 70FS.
Which would be faster?
Personally,
as i said previously,
i'm not a pattern flier.
I am a sport flier that likes speed too much!

Just revving up the engine in the pits would twist the fuselage nearly in two! <G>

And what prop for the OS 55AX?
An APC 11x6 or MA 11x8 wood?

I just used a TT .46 Pro but I mounted it at a 8AM position so that the muffler was centered between the landing gear legs. Resulted in a very good looking plane with not that much effort and expense. You could do the same with the OS .55

Well if you ad up the 2- 70 four strokes you get 33% I just got a ASP 70AR (magnum) and I was impressed. This would be perfect for you. The 2 things I liked was the crankcase oil recovery system and the recommended fuel is 0-10% nitro with 5% being the most supported. And on that plane it should sip fuel compared to a 55AX....
