Default OS-FS70S choke

Plan to install OS FS70S in 40 size fuse. It would be a better fit if the choke were removed. Would this make sense? This is my first experience with 4 stroke engines...obvious???

If you use an electric starter and muffler pressure you shouldn't need the choke. I hand start everything so the choke comes in handy for priming. Really like my 70 Surpass. I fly it with a 12x8 APC prop.

Default OS 70 Surpass

I have never used the choke on my OS 70. I prime mine by plugging the exhaust with my finger and flipping the engine over a few times. Starts great, no problem. That choke thingy just gets in the way.

Default OS-FS70S choke

I spent the extra time to install the choke in my Cap 232 only to find out it wasn't necessary. Take it off, it's just extra weight. Plug the exhaust like poncaflyer said. Works the same.

The current model OS 70 Surpass II never had a choke on it when new.

I took the choke off my OS 91 Surpass I a few years ago and forgot where I put it?

Enjoy,

Jim

Old 70FS is a great engine .... have 3 of them, none with chokes. 12x8 is quite a bit of prop. I've usually gone with 12x6 or 7. I'm sorry they've discontinued this engine.

I had the OS 70fs on a 40 size Laser 200 built from plans about 15 years ago. The 70 was on the plane 12-14 years. I finally retired the plane this year. The OS is now in a Pacific Aeromodels 540T 40 size. I switch to an APC 13x6 for a little more pulling power. It seems to be a good combo and flies well so I leave well enough alone. It's been a good engine. Changed the bearings once or twice but that's it!!
