Default YS 63s

I have ordered one of these, how will this motor comapre to my Saito 82a which is currently turning a 13x7 apc approx 10,300 rpm on 15% nitro / 18% synthetic.
I found this prop to be the best combo for my Seagull Phoenix PC-9 in thrust and speed.
I was hoping to get a bit more power out of the YS, but if its close that would be good enough.
What rpm can I expect with the 13x7 using 20/20 on the YS?

My YS63 will reach 9500RPM with 20-20 YS fuel for APC 13X7. Your YS63-S probably will do a little bit better than that. Yes, 13X7 is the best prop for sport/pattern style fly with YS63(S).

RC, I would estimate rpm somewhere around 9800 - 10,000 rpm with that prop.

I would put my money on the YS .63 being a little more powerful than the Saito .82 but to get that power advantage, I'd recommend letting the YS rev to between 11,000 and 11,500, static. They seem to prefer being in that higher range. With that in mind, try a 13x6, 13x5 or maybe a 12x8 and 12x7 as well.

Do let us know what figures you get. You'll love the engine - they are a real jewel.

Currently with the Saito 82 and the 13x7 it has good speed and not bad vertical, with the 13x6 the vertical is much better but it seems to fly slightly slower. I have tried the 12x8 and it has even less vertical.

If i go down to a 12x prop with the YS, how will this give me better vertical than using a 13x prop?

Well, if vertical is your highest priority, stick to the 13" prop and bring down the pitch until your new YS .63S is doing about 11,000 to 11,500 rpm. At this rpm level, the YS .63 should be putting out close to its best horsepower. The YS will rev much more freely than the Saito and should unload better in flight.

Experiment with props - you never know what works best until you try stuff.

I guess if i use the 13x6 with the YS and it it revs much faster than the saito it should give me better speed.

What rpm range can I expect with a 13x6?

In the manual it says to fly the plane during the breakin period with a slighly rich setting, What do you guys do? Do you need to take it easy or can you just go for it?

The 12x8 you tried--was it APC ? The MAS 12x8 K series is a different animal..............12.5x8 Bolly clubman might be a winner............

13X6 will fly the airplane slow, to the point that 3D maneuver are possible with heavy throttle management. Personally, I'll pick 13X5 (or 14X4) for 3D and 13X7 for the rest.

I have two 63s that are on my 104" PBN Nomad. For break-in I ran both well to the rich side for a bit over an hour each on a Balsa USA Stingray, both on wheels and on floats. Remembering that the engines were far from being fully broken in, were running rich and therefore the RPMs were low, on both engines the RPMs with APC 13x6 prop was 11,000. For the Nomad, due to clearance issues I will be using three-bladed props. After experimentation with the Stingray it appears that I will be using three-bladed 12x6 Master Airscrew props. These gave 12,500 RPM versus 9,900 for similar 12x8 props - again these were during break-in so there wasn't any intent to max. out the power.

Hope that this is helpful

I use APC 13x7 on my YS, fuel is 20% Aerosave synthetic oil, 35% nitro and 45% methanol. works great.

Last time i measured on ground it was about 10200 rpm. I think on air it is even better but how much, i dont know.
