Default TT 54s engine tune

I have just fitted a new TT 54s to a 40 size tiger moth and it has all gone pear shaped.

My thought was to run a few tanks few on the ground (as per run in instruction) before heading out to fly. Problem is I just can't get this engine to run properly at all. (btw engine is inverted)

First attempt was with 18% blue oil and 10% nitro. Could not get to full throttle and detonation occuring.

On advice I changed fuel mix and plug.

Current fuel mix 15% blue coolpower, 5% castor and 5% nitro. Using a 11x7 prop. Enya3 plug.

Things improved but still no joy. I checked the tappets and the gap was way above specs. Adjusted to correct setting and tried again with little improvement. I have also tried placing the prop at different positions.

Can anyone advise whether the fuel, prop, plug combination is ok and where a good start point for the needles would be ( out of frustration I pulled the idle mixture screw out to check and did not reference factory setting) I have no idea even where to start from now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edon

Default RE: TT 54s engine tune

try a fox miracle plug or OS type F just a guess. martin
I use the OS f in all my 4 strks 30 thru 91 no issues have not used a fox but read its ok

In the moth I would guess the engine inverted thus tank height important pickup even with carb also
the TT is it a single needle with air bleed or true 2 needle carb?? if aire bleed hole about 1/2 way on carb
ith true low speed adjust start 1 turn out from closed if you can turn plane upside down to get engine upright for adjustment and an on board glow heater may help too
