Does anyone have a suggestion as to a good book about model airplane glow engines? I am not looking for a beginners book, I'd like to find something very technical covering such things as compression ratios, port area and timing, types of materials used in pistons and liners and how they relate to each other at different operating temperatures, etc....

Also if you have one for sale, Id be interested.

There is one. I cannot remember the exact name. The author is Dave Gierke. He's a contributing editor with Model Airplane News. It should answer your questions. He's a genuine engine man.

As Mr. w8ye has so aptly pointed out, the name of the book is, "2-Stroke Glow Engines for R/C Aircraft." A comprehensive guide to Understanding, Running, Maintaining. Author is the infamous Dave Gierke. My copy is from 1998 and is signed by Dave. It is a must have. Comes with a pot of coffee and a light bulb

Another book possibly worth mentioning is "Harry Higley's All About Engines Book." His up to date book has more information for the advanced modeler than his previous edition. $19.

These guys are in Indianapolis and are doing more research than anyone except, perhaps, Novarossi themselves. While this website caters to boat racers the engine design info applies to all glow engines. I haven't been able to find anything better that describes in detail port time-area, compression ratios, squish heights and widths, piston fit, and tuned pipes.

Thanks for the advice, I ordered the book online today. Order is pending...if it fails, I will still be looking to buy one.

Also, the site was very informative..just what I was looking for, something technical. If anyone has any more site recommendations, please let me know.
