I have a mousse can muffler on a OS 46 fx. The header length is 6 1/2" . Should some of this header length be trimmed off to get the cannister to run properly ? I've tuned other header pipes by doing this to get maximum rpms. Is this process necessary with the mousse can muffler. If it is, has anyone else done this with this particular muffler and how much did you have to cut off to get the engine to run properly ?

Presently 4-5" of the header pipe is in the cannister.

The trial and error process is still necessary

I agree 100%, still trial and error. No pain no gain.

There are just too many variables in the shape/size of the can for there to be a cut and dried length of the header pipe

I have a few headers with mousse cans and I have found that tuning them as you would a tuned pipe works pretty good. I do not put my header in the mousse can though. I JB weld or aluminum solder a stinger on the mousse can and use a silicone connector to connect it to the header.

That's what I thought. I was wondering, I guess if anyone had the same set-up and could tell me what to cut off. the mousse can is one that Flying Z models from Robards kentucky sells.

I've used mousse can mufflers a lot and generally found the header and stinger lengths to be not critical. For asthetics sake, I'd shorten it to about 4" with only about 1/2" of it actually in the can.
