Default Best engine for a 4*60

I am getting more and more mixed up about what engine I should use. Should I use a 4 stroke, a 2stroke. Help!!!!! Thanks for any help in advance. Gene

.91 four stroke all the way! I have a Magnum .91 in mine and it's a perfect match.

....I would go for a Magnum .91 FS, or a Super Tiger .75

I'd use the Saito 100. Turns a 13x8 about 9 grand and very light. Dennis

Do you want a noisy high RPM motor that makes all its power up top, or do you want a better sounding, more efficient, and torqy motor for swinging bigger props? Try a 4 stroke, you won't be disappointed.

I have built many of these planes (all kit built) and tried a few engines, OS .61fsr, ST S-.61 abc, Enya .90 four stroke, OS .91 surpass.

My favorite was the .91 surpass, as it had the best balance of power, throttle responce, and long run time on a 14oz tank. The Enya was a very close second. The other two engines were okay and had plenty of power, just not as much fun.

The 4*60 is a rather draggy design and the fourstroke seems to less bothered by it because part throttle power and torque is IMO stronger than that of the twostrokes.

How about a magnun 91 fs? My only concern about this engine is seems not to have a very big following. Gene

I had a Magnum 91 four stroke for several years. It was a very good engine. I just didn't have it on my Four Star 60.

It is almost identical to the OS 91

One of my friends has a SuperTigre G90 in his and absolutely loves it. (His way of looking at it is the 60, 75 and 90 all weigh the same so he went with the most power for size and weight) Definitely his favorite plane.

Not a big following??? Tower ran a special back in Feb selling them for $150 and then giving a $25 discount on purchases of $149.99. They ran out. I ended up with three and othere guys at the field also bought them. If you flollowed the RCU thread on the sale, you would have to conclude that Tower alone sold a couple thousand of them.

As W8ye said, they are almost identical to the O.S 91s. Either engine is a great choice for the 4*60. I'm on my second 4* with one of the Mag 91 four stroke engines. It is a great combo. I like to keep my flights around 10 minutes max, and I am sure I could get two flights off one 14oz tank. When I was breaking in the engine, I timed the second tank, running very rich and mostly upper throttle range and it ran 18 minutes before finaly running out of fuel. Now that it's broken in some (two gallons or so) and running leaner, I'm sure I could easilly get 20 minutes out of it. I seldom run more thant half throttle.

I maidened a guy's 4*60 with a Saito .91 in it and an MA 14 x 6 prop.

It was a very nice combination - not ballistic, but a really nice, well balanced low speed aerobat with a good flight time and a nice pleasant sound.

Like the other guys, I think the 4*60 is more of a four-stroke kind of aircraft than a two-stroke one.

Yeah... and the 4* is a rarity at the field as well

Seriously, its a great engine and a good match for the plane.

Don,
Did I kick myself big time back then, missed the sale. A day late and a dollar short[&:]
I think one would pep up my 4*60 in comparison to the vintage Saito .65, runs sweet though[8D]
