Thunder Tiger Glow Engines

RE: Thunder Tiger Pro-46 Engine Forum
Gotcha. Just less back-pressure so it lets it wind higher. I found it on the Tower site. The noise may be an issue at my field. We have a < 98dB @ 10 ft rule. For $14 it's worth a try, though. It's still a stock muffler, just different stock. ;-)

Hey guys. I'm a new owner of one of these engines. I just bought a PT-19 today with one in it. Servos, switch, TT PRO .46 with pitts muffler and a Graupner 3-blade prop. By the looks of it, I think I got a pretty good deal. I might try and fly it this weekend if I can get it put together. Nice plane and it sounds like a nice engine. I'm happy.

I used to be an OS man until I took a "chance" on a TT pro .46 a few years back. No regrets! Ive got one powering my scratchbuilt T-45. I've got a smaller pro .36 powering my scratchbuilt U-2 that weighs just over 7lbs dry and hauling 2 digital cameras.

I mounted a MAC muffler on the pro .36 above and noticed about a 1k increase in rpm. Below is my latest design using a pair of TT GP .25's. Ive never used these before but I expect them to be good engines... This will be a testbed for a larger model that will be powered by twin Pro .46's

Yesterday I opened up my engine and I noticed that apart from the slot between the carb and the front bearing, I have also a small hole, that seems to provide that extra lubrication. The position of the hole is shown in the image attached.
Is there someone that has the same thing?

a couple of flips and the engine started (before it was a pain in the *ss to start the engine)
engine best setup was found in a a couple of minutes
when I close the carb, the engine stops immediately where before I had to wait for about 10 secs
so far so good

RE: Thunder Tiger Pro-46 Engine Forum
Hey guys again.
I have been reading and haven't posted here for a while. I bought a CG Ultimate from a guy that was a complete wreck for 50 bucks. I spent 2 months tearing it down, rebuilding the frame and wings then finally re-covering it. What a project! as I was working on it I said to myself many times, I should have just bought the kit because it would have been faster!!!! When I pulled off the old Ugly black monocoat, the wings and frame just fell apart because it was crashed and was glued together with elmers wood glue. It took me two weeks to figure out what colors and scheme I wanted. While on this re-build I was contemplanting a motor and I wanted to go with something that would hover it at 1/2 throttle - maybe a YS 120? Really expensive for me.
ANYWAY, I went into the LHS and he had a TTpro 120 two stroke!!!!!!! I didn't even know they made them!!! I bought it for $219.00 and put a pitts muffler with a smoke coil in it.
I haven't run it yet but probably will this week After all of the work involved in this re-build I am finished with the burnout and am really excited about this one!!!!!
here are a few pics and I will keep ya'll posted
P.S. Yeah I know that the color didn't match on the cowl to the monocote and it was suposed to be the same color by the same manufacturer and Yes, I did screw up on the cutting of the $45.00 cowl! I'll just tell everyone that I cut it larger for more airflow!!!!lol

Oh, I didn't know that. The rear exhaust would have been a great choice for this plane because it has an option to apply it into the huge cavornous fuselage. I hope it runs good. If the weather is decent next week, I will maiden it. We are calling for snow this week but is usually doen't last long - knock on wood!!!!

RE: Thunder Tiger Pro-46 Engine Forum
Thanks John! That gives me loads of encouragement and excitement. My Ultimate only weighs 10 pounds and it will be great. I don't have to have it floored all of the time Right? Not!!!! I have a ST 90 and it runs good to great but never excellent so I am hoping that this one runs better. I am going to have a 16 or 17 inch prop on it with only 5 pitch after it is broke in. TT recomends a higher pich prop for the break in so the instructions say.
It snowed 2 inches here today so it will be a while before I fly again - real bummer. But I have a lot of projects to do untill the snow goes away.........

RE: Thunder Tiger Pro-46 Engine Forum
Hhhmmm, yes people get off subject quite a bit. That is human nature cause there is so much to talk about because we love this hobby more than anything. It is still a TT engine and it is easier to post at a thread where people are interested in instead of spending lots of time acually looking for an old thread involving EXACTLY what you want -to post - and never get a response due to a sleepy thread - besides, it keeps the thread fresh and a new topic is not created to junk up RC universe. Maybe a thread should be started of a title Thunder Tiger Engines - what do you think?

I don't know. That would be cool if you could beings that you are the one that started it. If that could be done, this thread would last for ever!!!!!! It seems everyone likes these engines and like the hanger 9 P-51 thread it is not always about talking bad about something.

RE: Thunder Tiger Pro-46 Engine Forum
Hi, futher testiment to the quality of th pro 46. In 2003 I started flying a new, stick built, telemaster 40, with mods I had made to another telemaster 40 I built in the 80's. Basically they were changes to move it a little outside the "basic trainer" catagory. Anyway the pro 46 hauled it around thru the summer and fall of '03 until the fall of '06, when a woven wire fence with 2 barbs jumped up and grabbed my plane!! Darndest thing you ever saw!! Plane hit top of wooden post just below the engine and there was only a monocote bag full of balsa left with an engine attatched to a small piece of ply. That same engine was installed in a Rascal 40 and flown (and still flying) up to now in '07 (too cold now).
With this engine (inverted, which I HATE!) in the Rascal I have had the pleasure of WAXING every other 40 size plane at our field ('course there are only 3 of us) but it's neat to see a high wing pass a Mustang, and a Tiger 40.
remember the 3 most useless things in the world are 1)the runway behind you 2)the air above you 3) the gas you left on the ground.

RE: Thunder Tiger Pro-46 Engine Forum
Oh, I forgot something (not unusual at my age) but I wonder if anyone has major experiance with the Pro 36. I'm in process of putting together a Thunder Tiger Lazy Tiger Cub (.20 size) and I have a new pro 36 to install. Any info on engine OR plane would be appreciated.
By the way I think HUNTERANDJEFF's Thunder Tiger Engine thread is a great idea and in the for what it's worth catagory I would enjoy (because I'm building one I'm sure) it being expanded to include TT planes, if they are all like the little dude I'm working on I think they are pretty good quality.
Sorry I got outside the "subject" catagory, please bear with me, threads AND computers are a whole new world for me.
Have a GREAT day !!!!!!!

Yeeee Haaawwww!!!! How did you do it mouthpiec? That was truly unselfish of you! I have a TT46 pro on my PTS hanger 9 mustang at it hauls some serious bootie. It is one of the fastest planes at our club. Never one deadstick. Also I put one on my 10 year old son's Nextar. This is why I chose a TT for my Ultimate by Carl Goldberg. It snowed 2" last night an today is a beautiful sunny, really blue sky day so I think that today is PICTURE DAY FOR MY PLANES!!!! Want to see em?

On the 36 . . . .
The piston has a shoulder in the front to retain the piston. In the rear, there is just a straight hole. You cannot use a nylon pad because the wrist pin hole comes across the rear Schnurle port.
I have pads, that would be easy.
