I heard them run at a car show a few years ago. It's the coolest sounding thing. Pretty amazing when you consider how complex it is to scale everything down and make it work.
They also had a Viper motor at the time, but it wasn't running yet.

Not too shabby, but..
Here is a guy who built a Ferrari 312, V-12 engine, gearbox, every piece. The page won't load, but the video still plays. You can hear what a 12 cylinder model engine sounds like.

He ran the engine, and I got the video. It is over 3MB.
The viper engine is no more. There may be 1 left, but the factory burnt down, and with it the tooling. Conley does have the masters, however...

Howzabout one of those CONLEY V8's in a Giant Scale S.E.5a...
Dear Fellow RCU'ers:
The PIPE Here again...and I am SERIOUSLY thinking of one of those Conley V8 engines (sans "huffer") for powering a scratchbuilt Giant Scale S.E.5a in true 3 inch-to-the-foot scale someday-it's just a set of "under-construction" CAD drawings on my home PC's hard drive for now!!
Think about it for a minute-the S.E. 5a WAS powered with a liquid cooled Hispano-Suiza single overhead cam (SOHC) type V8 of some 750 cu.in. displacement (more like one of today's DIESEL TRUCK V8 powerplants)...and the famous SPAD fighters ALL used basically this same engine.
I've closely checked the Conley V8 engine's size, and it would fit COMFORTABLY inside a Giant Scale S.E's nose, without protruding in any way! Where there IS already a very efficient water pump on this engine, a set of scale radiators (twin panels, either side of the prop shaft) complete with louver shutters over them to regulate the coolant temperature could easily be done, RIGHT on the nose itself!
A set of dummy Hispano V8 cylinder head/camshaft covers could act as mufflers, and be anchored to the cylinder banks for decent muffling of the exhaust note.
I know THAT engine is one I would HAVE to save up for...but one CAN dream, can't one?
Perhaps a Laser V-twin 240 for the early flights...but when the money got available, that S.E. would be flyin' under REAL V8 power...just like the full sized ones did nearly some 85 years ago!
Any thoughts?
Yours Sincerely,
The PIPE!

Thanks FloredCOBRA
That was a great site. And I was wrong..I thought it was a V12..it is a flat 12. And he didn't build the gearbox as I thought, but had the company that makes the full scal gearboxes make his. Good enough Thanks again.

yeah I seen that about the gearbox. But still he he had to learn a bunch about some of the other parts to be able to make them.
I am still in awe about the video and that the thing cranks up. I was showing my wife the video and got a " Yeah thats cute" ....haha
Don't think they will ever understand.....
