Engine for Cessna?
#1
I need some advice. I am currently putting together a Top Flight Cessna 182. First, they recommend for a 4 stroke .91 up to a 1.20. Is a 1.20 overkill or is that what I should use. Second, which brand do you suggest?

Hi, cjdigger.
I made the first flight with mine a couple months ago. It weights about 14.2 pounds and I had the same problem choosing the engine like you. I first bought a Saito 91 and mounted it but I was affraid it wouldnīt have the power needed to take it out from danger situations and before flying the Cessna I finaly bought an OS 120 surpass III for this plane. Also the plane was tail heavy so the extra weight of the 120 was enough to balance it without all the lead I had with the Saito. It is a wonderfull running engine (the Saito was very good also, just donīt have the power like this one).
It flies scale like at about 1/2 throttle and no problems during take-off. I am running a Graupner 15-8 prop. All I can say is that I am very happy with my decision and I love this plane.
Answering your question I think the extra power is better than wanting and not having it. Also a 4-stroke is the way to go because of the sound and the large props they move.
Depending on the weight of your plane I would go with the OS 120 III.
