RE: YS 1.40Sport VS OS 1.60FX
Their was a big difference at are field on the tested 160's............out of the five 160's tested on various props all we in the 16lb static pull range.........only 2 ys 140's tested, I sure remember 19.4lb static pull of one of the engines. This was an older 140 ( not knowing YS) I guess it could be different than a newer 140 sport.
One of our members keeps all the data....prop, nitro ect........ the only rule to keep it real, is fly your plane with the same needle tunes you pulled with.........this keeps the lean runs out of the data.

The current 1.40 Sport is actually a little more powerfull than the older 1.40 FZ. But if the engine they tested was a 1.40 DZ than it is sum what more powerfull than the 1.40 FZ and Sport version. Can you find out what model it is. It is either a DZ,FZ or Sport version, and what props and fuel where used.

No way my 1.40 FZ (sport) powered pattern plane has the same amount of power as a similar 1.60FX pattern plane.
Sorry about that news.

RE: YS 1.40Sport VS OS 1.60FX
I ran both engines on my katana extreme, both with pitts mufflers. I was running the 160 with a cline regulator. The 160 pulled a little harder than the 140 but not by much. Both engines were turning an APC 18x6w. To be fair I bought the YS used and I am not sure what kind of shape the ring was in or how loose the valves were. I would go with a YS on that size plane because it has plenty of power for it and the spool up is easily twice as fast as the 160.

Bbagle1,
I allready have the YS installed, but am waiting for spring here in WI.[X(] I am also running the YS straight pipe (no noise limit). I was just curious as to the comparison. I am wondering if mine will out perform my friends Extreme Flight 74" YAK 54 powered by a OS 1.60/pitts. His is about 1-1/4 heavier with 100 more sq" of wing. He is allways talking about vertical, and I would like to be able to have more.
Also, what fuel were you running. 20% or 30%? All of my previous experience with YS's has been with Power master 20/20. But I can get Wildcat YS 20/20 cheaper near me.

Motorman, while you're waiting for the weather to improve, why don't you and your friend run up your engines in the comfort of home with the same prop and compare tach figures. Then you can let us know which has more power.

Harry,
It was -13 degree's F this morning. I no longer can run engines by my house, the neighbor called the cops when I was breaking in my Saito 1.00 with the stock muffler last fall, and I am running this YS with an open pipe. I have no doubt that the 1.60 is a little more powerfull, but how much. I have less weight to deal with. My next bet is my Funtana X100 with my YS 1.10S, that should come in under 9 lb's. But all I have done with that so far is went over all the covering.[X(] Then I have another 1.10 and a .63 laying in there box's sleeping waiting for planes to put them in.

Motorman,
Check this thread on the 1.60 and you will get an idea of the tachs and props as well as some thrust readings.

I always ran magnum 30% in my YS 140. It was the FZ version not even the sport so you should have a little better performance than me.Also my plane was 10lbs dry. If you run 30% in your 140 sport and your AUW is less than 10lbs you will have a rocket ship, just make sure you run a gallon or two through it then adjust the valves before you commit too a vertical drag race. The difference in power is maybe a couple of hundred RPM's. Probably not even that much on 30%. i would reccomend buying a tettra fuel tank for the engine. They are the nicest tanks I have ever seen and will handle the pressure of the YS no problem. The stock tank that came with your plane may split.

Bbagle1,
I have allways used Tetra Tanks with my YS's and even with the cline system, I used Tetra's. I wish you could get them from other sources to, other than just Central. They have allways been awesome to me, but Tower allways has the discounts. I do replace there aluminum tubing with brass though. What size tank did you run. I have a 16 OZ in it now, but am thinking of changing it to a 20.

I ran the 20 oz and it was about right for the 140. It really likes to drink the 30%, i was getting 10 minute flights and coming down with less than a quarter tank.

Is your (muffled) Saito more obnoxious than your neighbor's lawn mower? It might not even be as loud. Were you running it late at night?
I can see a complaint to the cops over an open pipe on your YS, but a Saito 100 with stock muffler? Sheesh!
