I have the saito 180 on the hangar 9 edge 540. I am having a problem with the muffler. I cannot get the muffler out past the cowling and I need to know if there is an extension to drop the muffler down farther so that it sticks out the bottom of the cowl. Or can I add an extension onto the end of the muffler. Ive been considering the slimline pitts muffler but don't know if it will stand up to the 30% nitro.

I suppose you could try the Hobbico exhaust deflectors, though they have a bad reputation for creating excessive back pressure (power loss), and for falling off in flight, especially when there's lots of vibration.
Why don't you think a Slimline Pitts muffler would hold up to 30% nitro? Last I checked, they were made out of stuff that was fuelproof... Nitro content should have absolutely no affect on the performance of the muffler.

the standard mufflers with the saitos had a problem with heat from the 30% nitro. THe breather nipple would get hot and cause the threads to strip out. Saito re-worked the muffler problem and designed one that can with-stand the heat from 30%. The problem is now that the newly designed muffler is a different shape and shorter then the old one. The new muffler will not extend out of my cowl without doing some major dremel work. I was worried about the slimeline muffler having the same problem with the heat. The exhaust deflector would not stay on a 180 just because of the pressure coming out of the muffler.

The problem with the old mufflers was not due to the heat caused by the 30% nitro. I have seen these come out in engines using 15% and 20% nitro too. It is caused by the nipple being put in a place where there is not enough aluminum to get a good bite. The old mufflers that have the nipple up on the front of the can did not have this problem.
The problem with muffler routing on the H9 Edge is easily solved by mounting the engine inverted. If not possible then use a quality pitts muffler like the slimline. I should be able to handle the heat with no problem.
