I galled the Super Tigre Muffler !
Has anyone else done this ? And I was so careful while removing it too ! [] I did lube it while installing it the first time. I damn near had to beat it off, which just makes it worse.
Any way to prevent this in the future?
Thanks.

RE: I galled the Super Tigre Muffler !
Using regular oil won't stop the muffler from galling -- what you need is some nickel or copper anti-seize compound which can be had from any automotive or engineering supply store.
Use this liberally before putting the muffler onto the stack and you should have no problems.
If you've galled it up already (but been able to separate the parts) do the best you can to clean both the muffler and the stack up so that there are no hi-points that will cause it to gall again next time.
A file can be used on the big bits and some wet-and-dry sandpaper to try and smooth the rest.

It must be an older one, the newrer ones have a hair more clearance and don't seem to gall. Although it's no big deal if you do gall it, it still works.

What Xjet said.
If you don't have access to anti-seize compound, handsoap will work well. Yep, handsoap.

I suspect the oil used might have hardened up or caked up. Anti-sieze is the right stuff.
Estradajae asked what does "gall" mean. It means a press fit or tight fit that results in the two surfaces gouging each other and making removal difficult. Sometimes crud, or sand, gets between the surfaces and that results in severe galling. Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Chip

The latest issue of RC Report just arrived today and wouldn't you know it...They did a Review on the Super Tigre engines and a special mention on the possible galling of the muffler parts and to use anti seizing paste. A day late and a dollar short, the story of my life ! LOL![] The soap tip did work, and I will get the paste too !
