Thats an old Tatone strap-on universal muffler, Designed to fit most all brands in a particular size range. The strap goes around the cylinder to hold the muffller on. You just drill out the port that directs your exhaust wherever you want. Used to be the only alternative to a stock muffler, & a way to put a muffler on a motor with no mount provisions.

Terry,
You guys are soooo great! THANKS!!!!
given that the exhaust port is roughly 1" x 5/16" then would that make this roughly a .25-40 muffler, i assume?

It's amazing how long of a life a product like this has when others disappear seemingly very quickly. I have never seen one of these mufflers in use, nor have I personally known anyone who's ever owned one, though it's been in catalogs for 20+ years, probably much longer. Compare this to the myriad of products which enjoy moderate to good sales which go out of production after only a year or two.

Friend of mine is currently using one on an old small case Super Tigre 60. It works well as an exhaust diverter and provides adequate back pressure for idle, but it doesn't muffle.

I still have one and used to use it several years ago. After you drill out the port, a common hose from the auto parts house is held on with a regular screw clamp to direct the exhaust where you need it to go.
I had to make a gasket out of some sealer to keep it clean, and it works fine.
Not quiet, but fine all the same.
Did you find this in an old box of model stuff AM?

Hiya mike, sure did. some modelers have been kind enough to donate or sell cheaply "box o' stuff" type modeling items to me to sell to help support the rescue. One chap insists on sending me brand new, pricey items which is just sooooo wonderful of him.
others, however, have just sent misc stuff, and i am buying items at swap meets, ebay, etc....it's helping fund the horses now that I'm home running the farm full time....
