Four-Cycling a Two-Cycle Engine
#26
Just a hint Dar, but when you see that someone has corrected himself and you're editing a post to reflect this, then instead of just adding an extra line you could also take out the obnoxious comments...it's quite easy, just highlight and use the delete key.

A bigger hint, Brian...
Retraction of what I had written would void what MK had written; and not only the remark I added would be necessary, but a full roll-back, several stages long.
It is my choice to leave what I had written in place, since the language used there is neither harsh, nor intentionally argumentative.
It is the nature of these fora that some remarks made off-hand, would be in contradictions to, or redundant to other people's remarks.
The removal of such posts, or parts thereof; as if they had never happened, is not necessary.

Most ABC and ABN engines can be four cycled with no ill effect. In fact many of the control line stunt engine are ABC and ABN engines that are four cycled when normally flown. Dub Jet himself makes them. Only engines with an extreme taper, or a very tight fit have problems with this and usually only when first broken in. The tight fit may cause them to grab the piston and break a rod when richened to a four cycle. If you follow OS instructions on many of their engines to the letter you will break them in at a four cycle without having to listen for the sound. The instructions will tell you how far to richen the needle from peak and many of them will break into a four cycle at that setting. No problem.

One thing I must try one day is to record the sound of a 4 stroking engine the way I've done it with a 2 stroking engine and listen to the difference. I've recorded my son's car engine at full blast doing 36,000 then slowed down the playback by 100 times (the most my sound program allows) and you can hear every individual exhaust pulse, in this case 6 pulses a second. It sounds sort of like a vooompf...vooompf....vooompf. With a 4 stroking engine I expect I'd hear something like a vooompf....flubbb.....vooompf....flubbb
