Default Need new .15 size engine.

I am looking for a new .15 to replace the Magnum xl that I have crashed for the last time. In the crash the carb broke off and took part of the case with it so I need a new one for my .10 size stick plane.

Fox, Magnum, Norvell, Hornet, TT, MDS or other. What are you flying and how do you like it. I am not really looking at the O.S. because I am not really fond of there engines.

Thanks.

Dru.

OK Buzz here are my .02.

I built a HOB Chea-Pass .10 laser stick. I went with the $79.00 Norvel AME .15. It ran good, I never did get good throttle transition with it. Top end was good. The idle never was really reliable even after a gallon of fuel. I sold it. I next bought a MECOA .15 (about $55.00) and put it on the test stand to break it in. The muffler had a casting flaw which allowed goop to spew out in front of the baffle. I sent it, (the baffle) to mecoa and they told me all of them looked like mine. OK replace it or give me a new muffler! I even offered to purchase another muffler (If they would discount it). NOPE! Nothing. I just forgot it. It ran OK but generated alot of vibration. Top end was great but it never would hold a reliable idle. I sold it.
I then came across a used OS FP 15, (About $40.00). This is a creampuff!!!! I get good Idle, transition, and great top end. It really impressed me. I have since bought another FP 15 (NIB) and 2 FP 10's. Damn,,, even the 10's idle great. One of them was NIB. I have become a OS fan. I have been in RC since 1975 and have finally realized what many already knew. OS engines are well built and reliable. At least for me. (No need for any comment about the peeling liner of the .46) Never had one of those. I also have a FS 40 which runs like a swiss watch and am waiting on a 50SX. I can't speak on the LA series but I hear the plastic backplate/needle mount is cheesey.

Let us know what you decice to do.

Hi there, I have a little Sukhoi with a Magnum 10, a little trainer type with with a thunder tiger 15 and my favorite little 300 profile with a norvel big mig 15 it's an amazing little engine. It took a while to break in but now it's super. The idle is great, the power is much more then I would have expected. I do alot of hoverbatics with this plane and it has never let me down in more than 200 flights. I definitely will be buying more norvels.

Thanks for the tips. If I was to get a O.S. I would just get a new Magnum. I am leaning towards the Norvell or The Wasp .15.

Thanks.

Dru.

I just broke in my Norvel .15. 17,000 RPM after 10 oz of fuel went through it on an APC 7X4! Great idle as well. It does not have a fat range with the needle valve, 1 click either way has a big effect. On the other hand, it is still new and not completely broken in yet.

Only .15 I have is a Fox. Got it for only about $45. Was a bit dissapointed that it is an iron piston type, but it runs good on the bench. Need to find a home for it.
