RE: OS .56S-a-4 stroke versus Saito .56
I don't have either engine, so take this for what it's worth. If you're talking about the new OS 56a, it looks like it makes really good power and will turn a 13x6 at about the same rpm as the Saito turns a 12x6. The Saito is much prettier though.
Note: I'm going by what I've read in the Tachometer forum.

The numbers I've seen posted have the OS turning a apc 13X6 the same as my saito .65
It looks to be a faily strong engine, not YS strong, but pretty good.

I don't have the exact numbers between the two engines, but I think they are very close from what I remember. Taching engines on the ground usually tells you nothing about them in regards to performance in the air.
You would be hard pressed to find a sweeter running engine than the Saito .56. There is almost never any complaints or problems with them posted here on RCU. Plus, you can't beat the price of them.

RE: OS .56S-a-4 stroke versus Saito .56
Well i've owned the Saito .62 which is the .56's slightly bigger brother, and i now have an OS FSa .56.
In terms of power, the OS easily trumps the Saito.
Don't get me wrong. The Saito was a sweet little motor and ran like a swiss watch. It never gave me any trouble. The best RPM's i could get out of it with an APC 12x6 or Bolly 12.5x6 was 10,000rpm on 20% nitro. I ended up selling it with a model and wish i'd kept it.
My OS .56 spins those same props at least another 700rpm over the saito .62 and probably more over the Saito .56.
I usually run it with a 12x7 at 10,300rpm but last weekend i tried it with a 13x4 on a ModelTech Magic fun fly. Peak rpm's was over 11,200 and the plane had unbelievable vertical climb.
The OS is also considerably cleaner running with no slime from the crankcase breather like the Saito. The Saito is probably lighter. I forget the weights.

I recall a member here doing a side-by-side comparison some years ago, and they were too close to make any difference. Buy which ever one you get the best price on or looks better to you. You cannot go wrong either way. If you want the 52 surpass, get it while you can find it, since they are no longer made.

We're talking about the new OS FSa .56 which replaces the older .52 and is also considerably more powerful than it's .04 capacity increase would suggest.

Many thanks for your replies. I do wonder why the OS .56-a is not classified as a Surpass engine. Any thoughts?
Thanks again,

Whole new design , got the internal spit tube. Very clean running. I have one upright in Sportster and after 6 flights I used one paper towel to rub a light spattering of oil from the wing. Insanely clean.
Takes that 5+ lb model about 15 feet to roll out with a 12-7 APC and goes UP till it's gone.
