Default Webra .50 Speed questions

Hi All,

I just got a new Webra .50 Speed from Swany''s House and have a few questions.

Firstly, the supplied muffler looks to be an older style. It''s not on Webra''s current web site. It''s also considerably shorter than those pictured on the web site with a steep cone. Does anyone else use this muffler? What sort of performance can i expect and where does the muffler give the best power?

Is it ok to replace the slotted muffer screws with Cap screws of the same size?

When i checked the head bolts they did not feel tight. What should they be torqued to?

What glow plugs should i use for the break in with Zero Nitro and 20% Castor? I have some Enya No3''s. Are these ok?

I have 50oz of zero nitro fuel mixed for the initial bench runs but i will make some fuel with 5% Nitro, 15% Klotz and 3% Castor for flying.

What''s the best prop for a Fun Fly? APC 12.25x3.75W or something else?

From my experience(s ) the two mufflers are very close in performance...IMO it doesn't really matter which one you use...and they're both loud.
I have found the APC 12X4 to have better throttle response than the 12.25X3.75 and mine likes to rev quicker and higher with the 12X4...that might be a factor when using no nitro?(throttleability )

I use 10% nitro and an O.S. #8 or Tower plug...but with no nitro, the Enya #3 should be o.k.

I've used the slotted screws, and so far no problems.

Edit: I'm wondering if the main difference between the mufflers is that the newer one is a one piece (welded ) unit and not likely to come apart like the older 2 pc. muffler? Other than that, I didn't notice much if any difference. (I like the looks of the older one better myself... )
If your older muffler has pop rivets in it, then it should be o.k.

My muffler is definately a 2 piece but with no pop rivets.

It weighs in at only 3oz and i can tell it''s going to be loud.

I''m thinking of ordering an Ultrathrust muffler.

I''ll try an find an APC 12x4 for it on the weekend.

Some of the early 2 pc. mufflers would loose the back half after a while...so they started comming with a few pop rivets added.

The U-T is the best "fix" for any potential muffler problem

I use this muffler on my Speed 50.

What kind of plane do you fly with this engine, using those kinds of props??? They seem too long and too low pitch to me.

Default RE: Webra .50 Speed questions

I will be using the motor on a fun fly model initially.

My club has a regular fun fly comp and the Modeltech Magic is the most popular model, usually powered by TT .46 Pro's or OS .46AX.
I haven't been able to locate any new Magic's locally so i've bought a Hangar 9 Tango for the next fun fly.

I chose the webra for it's weight. Down the track it will be used in an old Pica Touche kit (.25 - .40 size) that's been begging me to build it for a while now.

This is my first time trying a European motor. I usually stick with OS.
My first impression of the webra out of the box was that it's pretty rough on the outside, but it's as smooth as silk and the internals look to be very well made.

Hi!
Use 0-5% nitro...Not more!
Rossi 3 is the plug Webra use their .40-.50 engines , calling it Webra 3...but it's a Rossi 3 plug . Enya 3 or OS 8 is also Ok.
Prop could be 12x4 APC or 12,25x3,75APC but also a 13x4APC .

The new one piece Webra silencer seems to make the engine rew better on the ground but the old one makes up for that by speeding up in the air.
