Default OS 70 SurpasII Crankcase - Need One

Hello everyone,

I'm in need of an OS 70 SurpassII Crankcase (black valve covered head, about 1 1/2 years old) as the valve sleve area broke off during a crash. I've tried to repair it with a type of aluminum brazing stick someone here reccomended I get. It definitely worked to repair my MAC tuned pipe but the stuff just wont adhear to the material on my crancase.

Do any of you know if I purchase a "Magnum 70" crankcase if that would work with my OS 70 Parts. They look identical but I'm afraid that the tollerences could be off enough where it might not work.

Any help on finding a new or used crankcase is greatly appreciated, or if you know where I could send the crankcase to have it repaired. Tower and Hobbico no longer list them. The engine only had four flights on it.

Thanks in advance.

David.

David, do you have the parts listing for that engine? It may be that the FS 70 Ultimate case would work, and it is showing Pending on Towers site. Also if you look for the part, by O.S. part number, you may find it.

Repost your question on the O.S. support forum and see what Bax has to say. I'm sure he isn't going to recommend trying the Magnum case as it isn't an O.S. part, but may have a source for the part.

The magnum engines are clones of the Pre Surpass engines, or at least the Surpass I with the silver head. I've got a Mag 70 but I don't want to tear it down for a comparison.

You may check to see if the bearing are the same between the Mag and O.S. Also check the size of the cam bearings. If those are the same size, your prospects look better that the Mag case will work. I would check the lifter size also, but you could use the mag lifters if the height is very close.

They are still listing the crankcase on Tower's site, but they appear to be on backorder.

See here...

Perhaps an LHS near you may have one in stock?

Good luck.

You can try Bob Boumstein, P.O. Box 39085m Omaha, NE 68139. He deals in used engines and sometimes has a parts only engine around.

A new head at Tower is about $60.00, a new crankcase is probably more since it might have bearings installed, etc.

The valve cover off a Magnum 70 will fit on the OS but not much else will work. BTW the vavle cover at Hobby People for the Magnun costs about $15 and comes with screws, the one at Tower costs about $20-25 and does not come with screws. Don't ask me how I know but I do.
