What percentage of the replies are worthwhile?

I find that in about 75% of threads, I read about the first page of a thread, at most.
Because it seems to me after that these threads always seem to turn into some sort of pissing match. Or a one upmanship duel between a few guys who think they know it all. [:'(]
The other 25% are hugely worthwhile. [sm=thumbup.gif]

Yes, I too get tired of this same ole same ole.....mine is better than yours mentality. What do they think they will get if they win?

I agree with the remarks so far in this thread. I do feel that everyone must sort through the chaff to find the wheat. It is time consuming and irritating in some cases, but RCU is still an invaluable source of information. Information that would require a tremendous amount of effort to assemble on one's own. I also want to say that KMOT and Mr. Mugen are two of the better contributors on RCU and I, for one, appreciate their efforts and the efforts of all contributors to RCU. I have nothing to say to the chaff.

I will read mostly for information and search for specifics. I think that RCU has respectful members for the most part compared to other (non RC) forums. Everyone has their favorites and it should always come back to the likes of RC; helicopter, airplane, gas, glow or electric, it's all fun and a hobby for most.

If I ask the question I read all the replies trough and more then once.
About other people questions, I read replies from people that I like how they write if its an issue that interests me.
I’m missing agexpert english, writing and answers.
And personally if I see too much written as a question I’m getting lost and it’s a deterrent, I believe it’s the same for others too so I try to keep it simple and with pictures.
Thanks

Barry, Club Enya is another that contains good usefull info, as to the others, it's hard to embellish numbers etc because too many others have the same engines. It's laughable when terms like, spank, mighty and others are used to describe an engine that lots of people own. I'm very careful about that and when I use the peak number I say so and when I use 50 rpm under the peak I say so, 50 under is the most useful because it is steady, absolute peak many times is unstable and the rpm wanders up and down a little. One could post the average at peak and post a greater number but what purpose would that serve.

Truly a great site and many great contributers. My main complaint is that they didn't start it 55 years ago when I was a NEwBY( is that how to spell it)? I really do find that way too many replies are repeated over and over though.

Agreed, some posts attract people who shamelessly promote a certain brand so it degenerates to a slugging match with no knowledge exchanged . Its as if they are paid to promote that particular brand and they will come to its defence like bees to a honey pot, their brand of engine is always good, its always you that don't know how to tune it. The rpm figures they quote sometimes can never be replicated. Same goes for radios, there's always the JR and Futaba guys bashing themselves silly when the only ones making sense are drowned out. I have a strong suspicion these "noise" is made by people who have undeclared links to the brand they are promoting.

All in all this forum is a tremendous collective pool of knowledge, experience and information.
The "Catch 22" is that you have to already possess a certain degree of knowledge and experience in order to distinguish the useful, accurate info from the brand loyalty or brand bashing ramblings.
The more one knows about engines the more help one can receive (by knowing how and what to ask, for example).

I recently changed my laptop from Windows XP to the Ubuntu Linux operating system. I had a problem getting the wireless to work. Using Google I read all kinds of wild goose chases. After reading many different ones I tried to sum up what I had read and installed the proper add ons and it works. But I didn't find the complete answer in one place. There was a lot of BS and several ways to get the job done to sort through. Bottom line is that I did find the answer on the internet.

Being as we are the information resource subject read the news from one and then look at the news from another source. Which one is correct?
Look at Wickipedia. What it has to say on a subject is accumulated and derived from many sources. Just look at the bottom of Wiki page at the references.
The same is true of most informational books

I get a kick out of the guys that have no mechanical experience whatsoever, and argue with
lifelong journeymen mechanics....about things that every mechanic on Earth knows to be fact.
These guys read all the "Engine Tech" forums in the magazines and quote the information like
it was Gospel.....when in fact, these "writers"....wriiting about these engines with 3 moving parts,
crankshaft, rod, and piston....have so little experience with real engines....it's pathetic.

I challenge these so called "aero-model" experts to spend a couple seasons racing go-carts
or motorcycles....two stroke engines....just for a start.
Some of the things I have read....written by these "engine experts" is quite laughable....
....but, the Internet can make a five minute search on Google.....a brand new "expert".

Google makes all the fools appear to be "experts" ................ but only to the guys who don't really know better.

You know, I feel my self lucky when there is an intelligent and helpful replay to my question…
I posted some questions on ARF & RTF forum about engine mounts of 4*40 and something else about the same complexity and there were no replays, sure people read but they don’t replay whether they don’t know or they don’t want or they don’t see beyond their own pisser…
So whenever there is some intelligent replays to choose from I’m feeling lucky, even if I have to sort the info a little bit….

....I don't respond to many threads anymore....unless the "opinions" get so far out

Some Members....for some unknown reason, hate it when someone with vast experience
chimes in.....go figure.

I agree about some writers, but you have to be careful when discounting some of them. I've recently found where a couple have credentials a mile long and must go to great lengths to not publicize their expertise.
Most true experts rarely let it be known that they are just that. You have to dig around to find out their backgrounds because they don't care if you accept their knowledge or not. It is almost guaranteed that I won't listen to anyone who starts throwing out their pedigrees at me.
