Default Hovering on an Irvine 53

I can hover my Giles 3D for about 20 seconds and then the RPMs drop or won't pick up on throttle. Do I need to make an adjustment (richer/leaner) or do I need a perry pump or similar ?

Thanks - Ditchit

Is it as simple as that ? Does anyone add anything else (pump/onboard glow) to an Irvine 53 (or any other 2C) to give them a comfortable feeling when the are hovering low(ish) ?

Default Irvine Awesome

My Irvine .53 hovers a Knive ARF with ease...no dip in speed at all.
Most people in the sport seem to run there engines a few clicks from lean...I believe the engine should be run as rich as possible while still getting good transition...the engine will lean out anyway in flight.

I use an 11.5 x 4 APC...with an Ultrathrust muffler...the hover and climb rate is insane.

First you need to rule out any problems with tank location, muffler pressure, etc.

I'll go with Ernie and add my 2pennies. make sure you are using the best prop.
My Irvine on my Sig SE (still real new) will hover about the same amount of time. I am waiting on taller landing gear so I can stick a bigger prop on. I'm running a 11x7 now. I bought a couple others for now (thinkk they are 11x5 and 11x4) But I realy want to try a 12x4 prop.
The engine doesn't seem to loose power for me, just kindof runs out of air and falls off.

Thanks for the replies. I'm using a 12.25x3.75 APC. Sorted tank problems I had 2 weeks ago. Good to know I shouldn't have to spend any more. A few clicks richer it is....

I'm gonna try and make some up at work. If they don't work out them I'm gonna get some TNT gear I think.
