O.s .40 Fp
Just picked up one of these in good condition, I did'nt get a manual for it, I need to know what needle is what, there is one on the top rear of the carb, one on the front right by the throttle horn, and the big needle on the left of the carb. I need initial adjustment points and I live in a high altitude area (Colorado), maybe this engine was a bad buy , I was planning installing it in an Uproar .40.

The one on top at the rear is an idle adjustment screw. Most people screw it out until it doesn't hole the barrel open any, then use their radio to hold the idle. The one on the throttle arm side is the low speed mixture screw. Most start with it about 1/2 the way across the hole in the front of the carb. All of the FP's I've had, I had to open the hole up all the way to get it lean enough to run right. The large screw on the left side is the high speed needle. Start at around 2 turns out from seated and tune it from there. Most one's I've had were set at around 1 & 1/4 turns out, but you will have to adjust it for your location, altitude, weather, etc,etc,.... Peak it out by turning it in slowly until you find the highest RPM, then back it out until you get around a 300-400 RPM drop. It should be ready to fly then. After you get every thing set as per Suptter's instructions ,I find that by holding the plane pointing straight up & the engine keeps running at about the same RPM you are pretty good ,if it quits you are too lean & need to richen the high speed needle . Has worked for me for years. MAX H.
