Opinions of O.S. .48 & .90 four stroke??
Just bought a used OS .48 FS and was wondering how it ranked, what is the best prop, weight of plane, fuel type, and glow plug to use. Also bought a used OS .90 FS,same questions, these are my first FS engines.

They are nice engines. The 48 is a newer engine than the 90. Neither is made any longer so spare parts will be a problem. The 90 doesn't have as much power as a modern day 91 Surpass II but power isn't always everything. The people with the old 90's seem to like them. The 48 is very much like the modern 52.

I have the OS .52, very similar. Running in my GP 40 cub with the full wing. I swing an 11x6 or 7 and I fly half throttle. A few others at my field have the .48 on cubs and run 11x7. I'm going off the water this weekend, might go up to 11x7.5 or 11x8 to get up with those big floats.

The Surpass .48 and .52 have many interchangeable parts. I have a .52 on my Slowpoke and it will fly at 1/3 throttle slow and easy, with plenty of powere to spare when you want to tear up the sky.

Hello; I have bothh those engines I like both of them. The 90 is in my 4 star 60, the 48 is in a Midwest suhkoi. The 90 is a real sweetheart, idles down never dead-stidks, easily hand starts, and can swing a big stick for braking if needed. The 58 suits the little Suhkoi, it zaps around thed sky, works good, and is easy to use, I use an 11x7 MAS.
