Super Tigre GS-45
HI
I'm going to get my new ST 45 ABC in these days after i won it in israeli public sale and i would like to know from people that have experience with this engine how it is.
My only personal experience is with WEBRA 40GT.
I have heard only good thins about Super Tigre engines.
If you have any tips or advices please let me know.
I'm planning to use this engine on fun fly model with OMEGA (MORGAN) 5% and O.S 8 glow plug, please don't tell me to use other fuels because in israel i can get only byron or morgan fuels.
Also, what do you say about using the MAC one piece muffler on it?
BTW, Super Tigre are Italian? and why they call themselves TIGRE and not TIGER?
many many thanks for the answers

Shalom!
The Super Tigre 45 is the best engine I have ever known relative to maintenance, reliabilitiy and so far longevity. I never adjust the carb and it just runs and runs. I have had many engines I like better, but this one is as stated above in the small engine category. I always use good fuel and 15% nitro. Works for me----- I have the large long design muffler and no baffle.

Baffle
The Baffle in the ST long muffler is about 1 1/2 inches forward of the rear end of the muffler. I would not remove this muffler. The engine is made to run properly with this setup. I have used an APC 10X7 prop for sport or 11X5 for my Spad Dominator plane. On the OS the baffle can be removed by taking the nut off the end of the muffler and separating the muffler, then removing it. I have found the baffle dont hurt me in a sport situation and since we have a noise limit I leave this alone also. You could remove the OS baffle and try it. I have never removed nor drilled out the baffle in an St engine. Hope this helps.

i would recommend 10% omega fuel for the tiger. i have alwasy used an idle bar plug in my tigers but the os 8 may be okay. mine like to run a bit rich, so there is a slight smoke trail in the air.
the 45 is an abc engine so it shouldn't have much of a break-in time.
i have not tried the macs mufflers- so have no comment other than the tigers run pretty well on their standard muffler. most aftermarket mufflers are set up for more speed- do you want more speed on a fun fly? the baffle is in modern mufflers to add some back pressure and quiet the engine some. what muffler came with the engine? is it the square back muffler? or the tapered back muffler? they both run fine the square back is quieter.

I've got a ST 45GS in a quickee. With a mousse can pipe (MCP), it turns an APC 9x8 at 16,500 rpm on Morgan's 15% Mach 7 (same as Omega). It seems to run best on either the OS #8 or the K&B 1L plug.
The muffler that came with it isn't designed to be taken apart so you won't be able to remove the internal baffle. I wouldn't worry about that anyway.
I've tried a Macs one piece black muffler on the ST 45GS, but I didn't like it. There wasn't enough backpressure to keep the engine running consistantly. The MCP is lighter, adds considerably more power, and makes the engine throttle better.
Originally the ST engines were made in Italy, but a year or two ago they moved the factory to China. I haven't seen one of the Chinese made Super Tigres though so I don't know if they're the same, better, or worse.
Maybe "Tigre" is how the Italians spell "Tiger"? I don't think I've ever heard the real answer to that question, but I'd like to know too!

man many thanks for you guys.
i will get the engine only in the end of the week.
the muffler is the silent one.
i plan to use 5% for the couple first runs (i have a gallon of 5% to finish) and then i will buy 10%.
anyone have any personal opinion on this engine with fun fly?
just to know, ringed engines need other type of fuel?
