ys 45 problems

Hi all,
I have a patriot with a ys 45 in it. Awesome combo. anyway, 2 weeks ago i had a dead stick because i ran out of fuel. i didn;t make back to the field and ended up in about a 3 foot stream that is on the south end of our field. I thought my plane was gone because of the noise it made. anyway when i got to it it was floating right side up on the water with a little nose damage(am i lucky or what) since then it has been rebuilt. I poored glow fuel into the cylnder and just turned it over a few times. I also sprayed wd40 in it to take the water out. I recently started it up and the engine runs pretty decent but i am not getting the rpms out of it and when i lean it out it wants to quit or when i make it rich it has a tough time idleing. this has happened to me before and i replaced the glow plug and that cured it. My question after all of this is, by running an engine at high rpm alot , will this cause glow plug to start to go bad, when i looked at it tonight it looks pretty silverish/white. Any suggestions? Did the water do any damage. I cleaned it out right away.

You might want to clean out the regulator housing. Also check the diaphragm for damage too. Needle valve and housing too. Rinse evrything with rubbing alcohol. Sounds like you may have some crap in the regulator housing.

Be sure everything is cleaned up, like azhar said. Replace the plug. Check to be sure the needle valve didn't get slightly bent in the crash... that will make the O-ring not seat properly and you'll never get mixture set right on the YS45... been there, done that. Check your bearings to be sure they didn't rust or pit. Check the regulator for gunk and be sure the check valve is working properly.
Don't use WD40 to drive out water... use alcohol instead. I just use methanol you can by at a hardware store in the paint thinner section. Then coat everything with a good YS safe oil. I use Mobil 1 100% synthetic automobile oil (one quart will last a lifetime and it is cheap.)
Water can start the rust process almost instantly. Even 1 hour with moisture can cause rust/pitting on bearings.
High RPM can shorten plug life, but if properly set up, plug should last for quite awhile. On my YS45's, I could run about 3 gallons of fuel before I need to replace the plug. Typically, I burned them in half at high RPM. Sounds like the plug looks OK, but sometimes it is hard to tell if it is working properly... try a new plug.
