Hi everyone
I received this engine yesterday, it costed me 50€ (41+8) shipped (cheap!![sm=thumbs_up.gif] for a fast plane I'm building.
When I receive a new engine...I just can't help myself, I just have to take a look inside... in the case of remaining metal shards....and it was TRUE!! the engine have tiny metal shards big enough to cause big damage! good that I made that!! It confirms that it is a good practice to check the engines when you receive them, there is nothing to be afraid of, and much can be saved just by taking apart 4 screws! no matter what engine. But in this case it is a faulty QC at MDS at the time when the engine was made.
Things I like:
- Lightweight (I'll post real numbers) and compact design with smaller cooling fins
- Machining work in general
- ABC
- 2 Boost ports, 2 trasfer ports
- Carburettor: It is machined, with o-rings everywhere. When I installed it made sure it was pressed down and checked for air leaks, and it is sealed.
- price!!!
I'll be breaking the engine on coming weekend (Dar's method) and I'll post some numbers.
I'm very happy with the engine, looks that it is a strong one, as people said. I made sure that everything was good assembled and in good condition, to get rid of the MDS ghost that follow many modelers and try to keep them away from this engines... I like to try new engines, I'm always the guy who takes the different engines at the field, where O.S engines are everywhere, and where people don't believe in the other brands...but so far I've been proved to be right on the engines (Magnum, Tower...now MDS) and people know me because I like to fly a lot!
Thanks for looking!
Saludos,
Jorge

At the end of the month I'll be getting a MDS 48 FSX, I ordered directly from MDS, but it will take time, let's see how it works.

Has anyone tryed this engine with a O.S 873 Muffler (from 46fx).
The MDS muffler looks nice though, but seems a little restrictive, the exhaust hole is smaller than in the O.S

hi John
I ordered in www.mds-engines.com
The send things from Lithuania..I don't know how it works for Australia.
They aren't cheap anyway at their website, but I don't know yet the final price.

Good luck on running that MDS.I have an old .61 that gave me no end of problems in trying to tune.I changed the carby to a Perry unit and now the engine is great.Good engines but the carbs are iffy.
