0S8 Alternative?
I normally run OS 8 in all my motors, but Im sick of paying 30$ for three plugs from tower. What other plugs could I use that would be similar to an OS8? (40 size on 5%).

Skater,
I really like the #8 too, and am getting sick of the cost. I have tried the Tower Plug on different models, and it appears to look and run the same. It also says made in Japan on the package.
W8ye,
I have not used Fox plugs in years for a reason. About the only thing they are good for in my opinion is to plug the hole and keep debree out while the engine is being stored. I think the Tower plug is about as close as you are going to get without buying the #8.

K&B standard long plugs are great, long lasting, plugs. They come in a variety of heat ranges. I use them exclusively in my 2 strokes. The last time I bought plugs I think they were around 4$ each (that was a while ago though). There is only one OS product I buy and that is the type F plug for my 4 strokes.
Ten bucks a plug? Hehehehe.

Jazzy,
You can replace the OS F with a YS plug too, since they are the same exact plug. You cannot tell the difference by looking at them or by running them.

A Fox Miracle plug never worked on my SK and JBA ABC engines. Many times I tried and couldnt get a normal run over half throttle.Lower throttles are very good but not highs.

Why is this thread so titled???
The OS #8 may be quite popular, but by no means is it a benchmark for glow-plugs, nor is it a trend-setter...
It is just an ordinary, medium-hot plug, with an ordinary life-span; that happens not to fit perfectly even into engines made by its own producer...
It is too short for a perfect fit in mid-large engines, such an an OS.40-.61, yet it is also too long, to perfectly fit into smaller engines, such as the OS.10-.15LA.
Strangely, OS use the same medium-reach body, even for their A5/#10 plug, which is cold and designed for engines of .61 cid displacement and larger; ALL of which require a LONG-reach plug...
Any medium heat plug is just as good, if not better due to fit.
There are several that last significantly longer too.

RE: 0S8 Alternative?
I have used almost exclusively tower plugs and they work well..
I just recently bought from JustEngines 4 2 stroke plugs that they had quite cheap, they almost say they are "copies" from the O.S 8....
I don't know there, but here in Germany Rossi plugs seem to be quite cheap comparing to the other brands.

Gotta go with Merlin plugs, long reach, high quality, good price ,long lasting and great selection. Only $5 and free shipping on orders over $25. Took me 2 years of hard running to wear out one of his plugs.

The Fox RC long is about the same heat range at high speed but is not as hot at low speed, a Fox Gold and especiall the Fox Miricle plug holds it's heat at idle better. K&B 1L is colder at speed but does just as well at idle. It often means higher RPM with higher nitro and yet still has a great idle. Enyal plugs are great, but almost as expensive as OS. If you need a really hot plug that is cheap, try Hobby People's Thunderbolt plug.

You have to readjust the needles when you change plugs. It will act leaner or richer with a new plug.

I just ordered a new engine from Www.Himodel.com and I threw in some plugs just because they was so cheap. 2.8$ each. I don`t know how good they are until they arrive, they was branded ASP so I`m optimistic

Ok, the link doesn`t work, but the plugs can be found under "engines miscellaneous"

I have also found the inexpensive Fireball plugs to work quite well. OTOH I must admit that while running a few hundred engines ( not a statisticaly significant sample, of course) I have found very few plugs that were totally unsatisfactory.
