exhaust temp
Hi there, I'm trying to find out exhaust gas temps for a .77 ducted fan glow engine. I have coupler material good up to 550F and still managed to get a hole in it after running for maybe a minute. Are exhaust temps that high? The other possibility is that the header wore a hole in it because the coupler clamps got loose.
thanks

RE: exhaust temp
I raced .90 sized boats a few years ago. I tried a few different couplers and they all failed. I finally made a header that was the same diameter as the inlet of the pipe and then turned a piece of 3/16" wall Teflon so that it was a light press fit over the header and pipe. I had a flange welded on the pipe and header and used springs to pull them together. That unit held together for a couple seasons. This was on a high timed 90 running 50% nitro.
The key is to have as close to zero gap as possible. If you can overlap the pipe and header that will keep the exhaust from directly contacting the coupler.

RE: exhaust temp
I believe with enough nitro the exhaust can be well over 600 Degrees F. In fact with enough nitro the exhaust could be hotter than the flame in the engine because the nitro will continue to burn in the exhaust.
