Muffler modifications! What should I look out for?
Hello.
I was wondering what I should look out for when
making/modding my own muffler setup to fit inside the cowl of my Cambrian Spitfire IX. I'm planning to use an OS .46FX mounted inverted, and I want the muffler setup to be completely hidden within the cowling. There is no room for a standard pitts muffler between the sylinder and the cowling.
The problem is that I can't find a ready made muffler for this setup, so I'm considering making one myself.
I have a "dustbin" muffler that fits .40 to .60 engines (acording to the manual) and a TopFlite in-cowl header for a .60 engine. I would like to combine the two somehow.
Will using a header made for a bigger engine adversly affect my engine? What will happen if the muffler is made for a bigger engine?
On a "pitts style" or "dustbin" muffler, what will happen if I cut the Exit pipe(es)? do they need to be a certain length for the muffler to work properly, or can they be cut down in length to be flush with the cowling?
Any tips on this will be greatly appreciated.
