Default engine for cg chipmunk

I need to decide between a Saito fa 91 or fa 80.
I know the best for this plane would be a 90 engine but I have a chance for buying a NIB cheaper saito fa 80.

Do you think it is enough engine for this plane or Is it worth to spend much more money in saito fa 91?

Thanks

Neither, you can easily pick up a Thunder Tiger .91 4 stroke for 169.00 and it spins a prop about 700 rpm higher than the Saito .91.

Default Thunder Tiger 91

I have a Thunder Tiger 91 and it works great, ran right out of the box with no problems. I have only used it one season so I don't know how long it will hold up. I got mine on a super sale for $155.00 a couple of years ago, but I see them at Trade Shows all the time for about $150.00 NIB.

I've got the TT 91 in a Super Chipmunk. I can yank it off the ground in about 20 feet! The plane weighs just over 8 lbs.

(It's the WM/CG version with retracts and flaps.)

Default why a 4 stroke?

I have a O.S. .91 Surpass II on mine (Actually the World Models clone of the Goldberg)and wish I had more power.

A buddy has the same plane with a Supertiger .91 two stroke, and that is an awesome combo. If I were to do this again, I would go to a .75 or .91 two stroke over the 4.

The 80 is fine . If you can get a good deal on go for it/ The 80 will fly a normal weight CG Chipmunk very well.

I wouldn't recommend the 80, personally, I don't think its enough engine. I have a YS91AC in mine. One word - awesome!

Have you considered the Saito 100? I hear lots of good things about it, and have seen several first hand - but I don't own one.

You will want plenty of engine in your Chipper. Although I am partial to 4-strokes, I like the idea posted above about the .91 2-stroke.

Good luck, you are going to absolutely love this plane...

Benfly"n Qoute:

I have a good friend who has been flying one for about 17 years powered by a small frame Enya 90 four stroke. The Enya 90 and the Saito 80 are about the same power with any edge going to the Saito 80.
It flys very well plenty of power for most flying. No ,it isn't overpowered and doesn't need to be.
I figured when he said "a good price " he knew what a good price is.

You haven't read all of my posts, I have backed Saito in the past.

Finally I bought a Saito fa 80 new ( 175$).
I think it was a good choice.
BTW I submitted another thread about advices on using my new engine. ( I am a beginner in four strokes).

Thanks again
