Default Moki 2.10

Hi and greetings from Australia,

Looking at buying a MOKI 210 for my 1/5th scale YAK 50 I'm currently building, engines are a hell of a lot cheaper in the USA.
Model Engine Sales Company in Halifax seem to be offering the best price on the MARK/MOKI 210.
Are these guys good to deal with ??
Will save myself around 150 aussie dollars by purchasing it from the US (with shipping costs).
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Kind regards
Ossie

Just received an email for an Australian hobby shop, they must frequent this site from time to time. Here is what he quoted me for a MOKI 210 -

Dear Ken,

I understand you are wishing to purchase a Moki 2.10.

RRP $725.00

Please note we are a wholesaler only however you may purchase through any of
the retail outlets as listed on our website at www.hhq.com.au

Best regards

HHQ

Thats about 460.00USD, I still plan on getting the Moki from the US.

Cheers
Ken

How much is an MDS 2.18 in Aus., mine is a great engine, I'm building a 1/3 scale SpaceWalker for it. The mufflers and radial mounts for the Moki fit the MDS perfectly.

That does seem a bit high Ken. I paid 300.00 u.s. without a muffler, the Moki does not come with a muffler but the brisson I put on it only cost 33.00. Check with Chiefaircraft.com they have good prices on Moki's, see what it would cost for shipping I bet it ain't a 130.00 bucks.

Thanks for the replies,

Hobbysy - Not many MDS engines around in ths part of the world,
maybe I should try one !!!, maybe then the agent for them here in Australia............

Rockmon - Yes a very high price and one that I'm not too happy about. I dont mind the hobby shops making a profit, but when its highway robbery such as what I've been quoted here in Australia, now that gets my back up.
US prices for a MOKI 2.10 is around $300.00, (I have seen the them for $270.00). Shipping to Australia is $30.00.
After conversion (270.00 +30.00 =$300.00USD) = using a conservative exchange rate of 65cents/AUD thats $461.00AUD.
You can see now why I posted this in the first place.

Kind regards
Ken

Ken,

Not wanting to put a damper on your desire to buy from the US, but have you rang around some of the local hobby shops listed in Australian Airborne magazine. 'H' Store in Miranda (Ph 95257540)advertises the Moki for $549.

You may not realize but if Customs add the duty it will cost another 15%! Brings it up to about $530. Adding the warranty and back-up by purchasing local it doesn't make the purchase from the US all that attractive.

And no, I don't work for a hobby shop!

BTW, it is a great engine, had mine for ten months in a Midwest Extra.

Regards

Peter

G'day Peter,

Yes I have shopped around and did notice HStore's price, however he's still a bit over $100.00 more expensive. Have a look at - www.model-engine-sales.com, his price for a MARK 2.10 (MOKI branded as MARK) is 249.00USD, shipping is 30.00USD. That comes in at just under 430.00 AUD.

Import duties (10%) only applies to goods in excess of $400.00. So at $430.00 you only pay duty on the $30.00, that brings the total cost to $433.00.
Customs are not interested in us modellers, trust me I've been down this road many times in my 35 years of aeromodelling. Not once have I been charged import duties. Many of my purchases have been well in excess of $400.00

I've continued this thread hoping that all Australian modellers start asking why are we paying such high prices and that they may consider purchasing overseas. You never know, hopefully the message will get through and one day we might start paying a much fairer price.

Cheers
Ken

Ken,

All I can say in answer to that is that I have had to pay customs quite a few times over the last thirty years, I must have been damm unlucky. I now only purchase overseas if I can't get it here. I do agree though, that the cost to the Australian modeller is pretty high, those in the US don't realise how lucky they are. It appears that the Australian distributors require their Mercedes to be new each year!

As an example how the Ozzie modeller is hard done by I decided to purchase a Hangar 9 CAP 232, which came in about $990 AUD. A bit of shopping around prior to purchase found the model at $465 AUD, although now called Minicraft with Hangar 9 instructions, go figure!

Regards,

Peter
