Default Eagle 46 ABC

I just picked one of these up from my neighbor that came installed in his Cermark Bobcat. I think it's only had a couple of tanks of fuel through it. I tried to do a search but the results were inconclusive. I was thinking about installing it on my World Models Clipped Wing Cub but would like some more information on it. I also have an old O.S. Max 40 BB that I could use but wanted to use the larger displacement engine. Any information would be appreciated.

I have one...it also came out of a Cermark Bobcat.
It looks to be a clone of, or a "blend" if you will, of an O.S. .46FX and a Thunder Tiger .46 Pro. I reminds me of a Magnum in some ways...by that I mean the general "feel" of the machining, and the look of the internal parts...and it's made in China.

It's an ABC (with actual Chrome ) and the engine itself is of halfway decent quality, however the carb was a piece of junk, so I swapped one off an O.S. .46FX that had puked it's nickel plating in it's cyl. liner.
After I switched carbs, it runs well...I have it in an old trainer, and still fly it occasionally.

If your carb will allow the engine to run reliably, then the Eagle should be OK for your Cub...but...I would make sure by test running it on an engine stand first.

Which version of O.S. .40 do you have? If it's an SF or FX you might be better off in the long run using that...

Proptop, thanks for the response. I have run this on the stand a couple of years ago for my neighbor and it seemed to run ok but I'll run it some more just to be sure. As far as the O.S. engine it is very old, probably late 60's or early 70's. It has an air bleed carb and a clamp-on style muffler. It also has a piston ring and a baffled piston. It runs real strong as well. I'll have to get some more run time on the Eagle before I decide. This is going in a brand new airframe so I just want to be safe.

That OS engine you describe is the OS .40 H. It is a performer, It will spin a 10X6 -an 11X4 real well

That particular engine is good except the carb. The carbs were poor copies of OS and ASP years back. I would say 60%+ of the carbs are fine. If you're picky, then purchase a known brand carburetor or one from RJH (K&B, Machoa - US made) and it will perr... The cylinder and everything elese were awsome for the price.

Peace,
Steven Chao,
CERMARK

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll see how she runs on the bench and if necessary I'll see if I have another carb laying around.
