I use a good old OS 46FX engine (with its fourth set of sleeve and piston installed), with an APC 12.25x3.75 prop.

Members in my club cannot believe what I can do with this plane ( and I also sometimes don't believe it ).

If built light ( assuming you have the kit version ), this engine will be enough. But any of the other engines mentionned in the last post will be awesome too... But you might need to lenghten the landing gear a bit as prop clearance will be a problem.

i've had two sig SE's, both with irvine .53's in them. flys incredible! it is a good mix of an acrobatic plane and a 3d plane. not great at either but alot of fun to fly just for the fact of flying.

All of the above are good recomendations, I have one with the OS 50 SX, sweet engine and a good match. I highly recomend the extra power of a 50 or 50 somthing if you like unlimited vertical.

Default another one...

My brother has a SE with a K&B Screamin' 48-

I was skeptical cuz that engine is all about RPM's but it flew awesome with that 48-

It looked kinda like it was gonna explode at full throttle though

Let us know what happens- the 46FX is a Hallmark and the OS-50 would be insane!

I had several engines on mine and the Irvine 53 was the best of the bunch. The 53 is the finest 2C glow engine that I have owned or operated!

Default C

Every Irvine post is an advertisement!

I always say "The Irvine-53 and YS-45 are the finest engines I have ever owned..."

Of course I now have a Jett-50 and it is a masterpiece but kinda $$-

Galen- the same Galen that has the F-4 Prop-jet? If so, is yours still alive?

I piped my YS-45 (Macs 7.5CC) and now it is frightening

Hope all is well,
james

In my case it's true! I loved that engine! I broke my heart to sell it, but the DA-50-R is calling me like a siren song... Cannot resist... Any... Longer.... :drowning:

Wrong Galen... I live up north in the Great Pacific Northwest... And for my wife's sake -- do not start tempting me with turbines! I just got permission for the DA...

Thanks for all the advice. I'll look into all of them. Who are the dealers for Irvine in the U.S.

The inexpensive TT 46 Pro is plenty engine for this plane if it's kit-built. Flys great with 11x4 or 11.5x4.

Don't forget about Paul and Jenny at justengines... I bought mine from them, it turned out to be quite a bit cheaper from the us importer (Sig MFG is the only retailer in the US IIRC)

Sig is the U.S. distributor for Irvine, and they do sell directly from their website at full retail. But lots of other places in the U.S. sell them, and most cheaper. I just bought an Irvine .53 from Quantum Models. $129.99, plus free shipping since it's over $100. I had it in two days. Can't beat that. I put it into my SE, and I agree. A very nice combination. Mine's not broken in yet, but started on the first flip out of the box, and so far is running great.

Too heavy. Going larger than 50 or 53 on this plane is nonsense. Hey, do I get paid for these opinions?

I have a YS .63 in mine and it's a wonderful combination. Vertical is unlimited, torque is manageable and it's very quiet in the air.

John

PS, I ran solid wire tail braces and still need to add a little more tail weight.

A friend of mine has one with an O.S. 46fx on it and it performs awesome. He has a Tower muffler on it and uses an apc 12.25x3.75 on it and it hovers at half throttle all day long.
