MRC .61

I just picked up a MRC {model Rectifier Corporation in Austria} .61. Very cool engine with rear induction. It's new in box and never been run but the last owner for some reason removed the rod and piston? Now the rings {two} are missing along with the muffler.
Anyone know of a parts source?? This engine is so cool I don't know if I will use it or sell it, maybe just put in on display. I have never seen one before.

Can you post a picture of this engine?

it was introduced by HP in 1969 and was designed by paul Bugle. It was also the first engine with schnurle porting offered to the modelling public. It was never a MRC engine but was the us representative for HP at the time. The engine is somewhat rare as it was only offered for a little more then a year and then replaced with a more conventionaal front roter.

Thanks for the info. I may be able to find a set of rings to fit it but I'm sure the muffler is something I will never be able to find. I do have a little HP under the bench and I saw how the muffler fit over the port. Kinda cool.

RE: MRC .61

Yeah the muffler could be problem because in 1969 they weren't really making mufflers much for any engine brand. So they may have never made any for that engine at the time.
So you will likely have to fabricate something to work.

Frank Bowman makes rings for just about any engine imaginable. If he doesn't make the rings he only needs the piston and liner and he can make up a set for it. Contact him at [email protected]

Current rings that he lists are:
Reproduction Model Engine Rings

Quality at a fair honest price. Making a good ring is a Skill. Making a fine ring is an Art!

Last Revised 1 - 7 -11
I will reproduce nearly any model engine ring. If not available, I’ll need a good piston and cylinder to measure, or send motor. Send return postage, insurance is extra. For orders outside of USA, ask for shipping costs? Priority postage is extra. An order of 10 rings or more, discount of $1.00 off per ring, mixed orders are fine! Ring cost & shipping charges for USA listed below.
Please Note:
If you send me an engine for new rings that I don't currently make there will be No labor charge to do this.
If you send me the stripped down engine block ( Block, piston liner and rod assy.) for rings, that I Do currently make No extra charge.
If you send me a complete engine to disassemble, clean, and install the ring(s) and reassemble there will be a minimum charge of $25.00 per hour. My buisness is making Piston Rings and $25.00 is the minimum amount I would be losing by not making rings and working on your engine insted.
ATTENTION : NEW MEXICO CUSTOMERS WE HAVE TO CHARGE YOU 7.125% TAX, please add the extra tax to your orders.

RE: MRC .61

That's outstanding, thank you much. I also found a site for HP engines and I may/or may not be able to get a muffler for the engine. I'm not sure what type of rings this engine had but I will give the HP people a call and find out. They state that almost none of the parts of the later engines will fit this one but they do have a few. I may end up selling this one to a collector. It would be a shame to run it and and lower the collector value for someone. Still, as a pilot I love to fool with the old stuff. I bought a lot of old stuff but it is all brand new and never used. I'm testing out an old charger right now and it seems to work perfectly. It's better then my favorite old ACE charger. This was a pretty good pick.:D

I think this engine has the same E. stack dimensions as the front I. version?
The muffler has wire spring clips type of attachment (hard to describe ) and slips over the E. stack for alignment.

It uses std. compression rings...Mr. Bowman should be able to hook you up...[8D]

Very cool K. Wish they would have shown a photo of the rear induction engine. Sure is a long crank shaft between the bearings.
