tower hobbys 75 engine
 

hi guys
a guy gave me a tower hobbys 75 and a 65 la motor today they are a little stiff so i am going to put new bearings in them.i got her taken down but cant get the sleeve out or pistion rod off i am soaking right now in wd40 any thing else i should do thanks rye

Don't think you'll be putting new bearings in your 65LA. :)  Lot of times you can get the sleeve out by heating it with a heat gun.  I would soak the whole engine in glow fuel and see if that loosened things up before I went tearing the whole thing down.  If he was running them on fuel that contained castor oil, they're probably just all gummed up and if you heat them up, they'll loosen right up to where you can crank them.

The 65LA is a nice engine and I would advise against taking it apart ... just soak it in fuel and it will loosen up.

I don't know much about the Tower. It may be a rebranded Magnum, which is hit or miss in terms of quality.

The Tower 75 is a keeper. Good quality. There's a reason you never see them for sale often.

Glow fuel is very good for unsticking old engines.

After looking close the 65 la is a OS with a bleeder carb I hate those couldn't get my 60 to run right lost a tiger on a die stick may deep 6 the la 65

Just put it back together and soak in some fuel. No need to replace bearings, you may be worse off. Try it out first.

ok thanks i got the la65 redone and the 75 is soaking its lose now but ill let it sit another day before i put her back together and test run them,thanks for the help guys ,rye

Brass rings? Most model engines don't even have a head gasket, there may be an aluminum shim but this is just to lower the compression ratio. The Tower engines were ABC and did not have rings.

The brass shims can be from another motor if you can find one with a 26mm piston dia.  You may not need one if the head clearance is more than about .015", unless you are blowing plugs.  They are not really a gasket, but more of a shim as was mentioned. Different thicknesses will give different running characteristics, like idle, top end power, different nitro content etc.
