I kind-a just threw this together:

1) Old Black and Decker workmate

2) Scrap poplar 8/4 x 12 lumber end

3) Scrap 2x4's and plywood and drywall screws

4) Old wideband radio parts with S48 servo

5) Scrap wire and pins for pushrod.

6) Large engine test stand mount.

7) Dubro 16oz tank

8) A few screws and rubber bands to hold the tank and radio bag.

I have used this with a K&B .61 (screamer!), Saito 180 (tied the workmate to a tree and glad I did!), and last the TT 91S seen in the picture. The cool part is: To accomodate a new engine, I just remove the screws holding down the plywood servo mount, shift it to the proper position, and screw it back down onto the 2x4. I use varying thicknesses of foam to adjust the tank height.

I made a nice test stand from 2x4's, and bought a PSP adjustable test mount, and came up with a test stand I like very much.
The only thing I need to do to it now is to modify it to measure engine thrust. That will take a little planning but should be easy.

Yes, Its an experimental smoke system for my Ultimate. Its Much lighter than a TME.

Yes, It does it all, 049's to Moki 210's, If you have the adapter, It will do up to a 3W 240IB2, and all Radial engines. Pretty sweet:)

Thanks for all the input. For me, just a simple CAD drawing or a photo of a small unit that I can build would be great. I only want to run a small motor in now & then. Certainly no need for the $80 unit, although it is cool!

Maybe I'll design one and post the results here.

Don't know why you'd need CAD drawings. I've always improvised out of 2x4s and 2x6s. I used a modular system, with a simple cutout for each specific engine. They always turn out to be sturdier than any commercial or "adjustable" system.

Everything is mounted on my all purpose sawhorse. I can setup and tear down in 5 mins.

Best part is that my cost is exactly $0. All the pieces of wood are salvaged from scrap piles at home building jobsites in my subdivision when I go walk my dog. :D

How about this B&D work bench? Looks like it would be a natural. Maybe a couple of hardwood blocks could be added that would bolt onto it. Size of motor? Anything from an .049 to a Briggs! Use sand bags for a really big motor. You could also use it for it's intended purpose!

LOL... No, it's a VTOL. Wings, which are not apparent in the photo, fold out prior to transition to horizontal flight. Actually, it's one of the Transformers, robots in disguise. After their contracts as TV cartoon characters expired, they retired to my backyard doing odd jobs for me. You should see the one that mows my lawn. :p

For myself, I just cut a "U" in a piece of 1/2" plywood, bolted down a TT .91 4c and mounted the fuel tank behind on a piece of soft foam held down with rubber bands. A "z" bend in an old control rod worked the throttle. Clamped it to a bench with a C-clamp. Cost? Scrap wood.

Such a great idea, I just knew it wasn't an origional thought! What I was thinking though was to bolt on 2 pieces of wood to the table, and then screw the engine to it. Use the jaws to adjust to the engine.

Hmmm... I'm not getting you. Adjust the engine with the jaws? Like throttle? Hmmm...

FYI: the jaw control knobs get REALLY oily! What a mess... But you could fix that.

I mean to mount a wood block to each side of the bench, and screw the engine to this mounting block. The jaws could adjust for an engine the size of a .09 to a .91. Just turn the screw!
