Velocity Stack

I'm trying a velocity stack on my Rossi .45 to try and reign in some of the "splatter" that occurs when running at WOT & would like to solicit ideas/comments from anyone else who has tried this. Rpm increase/decrease? Fuel Economy increase/decrease?

Two ways to control the splatter out the intake. One is an air filter, such as the BruLine from Tower Hobbies, the other is the inlet stack.

First picture is my Magnum 25 with a stack that I put on it as an experiment. I didn't notice any power increase, but the plane stays a lot cleaner with the out spray controlled, and the fuel economy seems to have gone way up. And it may be subjective, but it seems easier to tune also.

Second and thirs pictures are a Saito FA-120 with both the stack and the BruLine filter. The combination made a very nice engine even sweeter.

Did you use the coarse or fine bruline filter on the Saito?

The BruLine coarse element will keep gravel and small birds out of the engine. I use nothing but the fine elements. Sorry, I shoud have said that earlier.

If you have the fine element clogging rapidly you are in an area where you shouldn't be flying - the trash in the air will get you too.

More. I also have the BruLine filters on Magnum and K&B, with the same increase in fuel economy.

Coouple more pictures. First is a K&B 61 in my Diablo, second is a Magnum, the right engine in my C-3/10.

I would think the filter would create a significant loss of top end power....?

I've not noticed any power loss. Even the fine element isn't very restrictive.

The only engine that I have done any with/without filter comparisons with is an OS 1.08. There was no RPM difference, and as best I recall little if any NV adjustment.
