Would anyone recommend an MVVS?
 

OK, a little more research has proven beneficial, maybe!
I may have found a good deal on a pair of MVVS .49's
Would anyone that is familiar with these gems recommend them?
Any input positive or negative would be appreciated!

oh yes do i recommend them. :D I recently bought a MVVS .26 Combat. This is one awesome powerplant. Adjusting the needles is quite easy and it transitions superfast! Great bang for the buck. WHen i need another glow engine in the future, it sure will be another MVVS.

Gobs of power, a little sensitive on the low end needle but once set they run fantastic. Had one on my TopCap for 100 plus flights.

I have two, a 40 and a 45 both on funfly type airplanes. They have great power a nice idle and never let me down. When you look at a solid machined aluminum carb you start to get the idea. DarZeelon knows more about them than anyone I know and I used his break in procedures. He is an RCU member and has just posted the new break in directions. He is alkways happy to answer questions....good luck.

Good input ,thanks. Judging by what I read to date these are nice little engines.
Pricey compared to the OS and TT line-up though!
I may just have to put my name on these two .49's :D

I would recommend the MVVS .49 as well. Used one in a Balsa Nova. Great combination. Like coyote stated, a little sensitive on the low speed needle valve but great power.

I've been using MVVS since iron curtain days and they are super engines in all respects! Their 2.5 diesel is a bit heavy but the .40, .49 range of engines are very powerful. Since they went to the rotatable cylinder ( so that you could decide where you want the exhaust to exit) I've heard of crankcase leakage problems due to the thin walls on the bypass ports, however I have not experienced this problem. I would give them 2 thumbs up!

Hi!
If you buy the .49 MVVS ...see to that you get them with 8mm carbs...not the 7mm that is standard from MVVS.The 8mm carb will give more power and still perfect throttle control.
I have during my 14 years selling MVVS engines never heard or seen one with a bad (leaking) cylinder case.

Bought a mvvs .15 a few years back. The rod let go on the test stand. The connecting rod had no bushing on the lower end. On the other hand I also tried the mvvs grrt 40 and was impressed with its power. Guess its a toss up.

I put my name on two of them. I'll hopefully be picking them up tomorrow :D
I asked him about carbs and what not and he has assured me that these are still warm from the factory and that I will be very happy.
I have read a whole lot about these engines and 99% have been positive. They will be going into a Twin air 45 that I bought then eventually into Topflites DC-3
I'm sure they will survive for quite awhile under these not to demanding twins ;)
I'll post my initial findings tomorrow

Hi,
Make sure you go get one, I use a 49 in a funfly. Bottom end superb with loads of power also very quiet with standard mvvs silencer.

the .15 GFS/R i've been playing with DOES have a bushing on the lower rod end. the upper end doesn't but after major modifications and lots of high RPM running it shows no signs of wear.

one thing i really like about this engine is that a new sleeve/piston/rod set cost almost nothing so that playing around with different mods isn't expensive.

Buy it. I have a MVVS 1.60 glow. It has plenty of power (turns a 18 x 8 at approx. 8000rpm) and has never let me down. Even fuelconsumption is low.:D

Hi!
Good luck with the MVVS engines ...but don't use the .49 in a top Flite DC-3 ...they are way to powerful for this airplane. Better to use the MVVS .28.
I have two OS.26 fourstrokes in my Marutaka DC-3 which is about the same size as the Top Flite DC-3.

I quess I ended up with some old stock. The engine looked good to me and was designed to run at high rpms with a tuned pipe. Other than the fact the rod wasn't bushed and failed, it looked like it would be a screamer. A little on the heavy side. How does yours run? Might try the newer version if the problem with the rod has been corrected.

when i find the time to build more planes i will definitely by trying out some of the larger MVVS engines

Have the 1.5 diesel ,40 and 61 (the 40 and 61) are both diesel conversions with Davis heads. the 40 swallowd its cir clip about 10 days
ago scoring up the piston and liner . It was replaced under warranty (liner and piston set) by Just engines this is not a manufacturing defect KandB STs and others have had clip failures also.It was run in yesterday for an hour with FAI fuel with a little extra castor
diesel head back on, easy hand starter a couple of flips as far as $$ getting these off shore Dar, JE,(the chap in Holland forget name)
LESS than OS and true ABC the removable and rotate feature on the cylinder jug a terrific feature Martin
DAR== the quiet MVVS muffler paid for itself yesterday on the re-break-in of the 40 liner and piston no upset neighbors

Zagnut. How does the .15 run without any modifications. Its rated for 26000 rpm out of the box. What will a stock engine turn a apc 7/5 at.

Good engines ,powerful,easy start, runs on 0% home brew,"known to fold wings on some 40 size trainers".MVVS 49 a great choice.

Udi,

This may be as far as power is concerned, but Rossi engine cannot be adjusted as well for idle, mid-range and response.
So much so, that MVVS makes a carburettor especially for Rossi engines.
It is much cheaper than the Rossi part and is a 'drop in' replacement.

It gives Rossis excellent speed control and response (not like MVVS yet), as well as a 200 RPM boost on top.

MVVS .49 Great power..user friendly as well.. I'ved used OS & TT for years.. after my first MVVS .49 , I'll never go back to anything think else.
