SAITO ID ????
 

One of my flying buddies just bought a used SAITO 150, he thinks. It does not have a size designation stamped in the side like my 150 and 180 have. Are some built without the size stamped on them?

It might help jog someone's memory if you told us more about the engine? Are the Valve covers silver or gold? Shiny silver or flat silver? What muffler does it have? The cone shaped, straight with prissure nipple on the fron, pressure nipple on the back, or cast? Does it have a sequential letter on it like "A", "D", "G" , etc stamped on top of the right lug?

My 150S has a metal plaque size ID Maybe the tag came off?

Don't forget the engine could also be an FA-120. Check the threads on the gland nuts holding the intake and exhaust to the cylinder. If they are the same size, 14 mm, the engine is an FA-120. The FA-150 and FA-180 have a 16 mm thread on the intake with the exhaust still 14 mm.

Not a 120? If you have a known FA-150 or FA-180 it's easy to ID a stranger. Measure the depth of the groove between the side fins at the same point on both engines. If the depth is the same, they are the same size. If one is deeper, the deeper one is a 150 and the shallower one is an FA-180.

This is my early high compression 150, you can see the gold 150 just above the right clamp bar, I'll check today to see if its possible for the tag to come off. Just for kicks the engine is turning a Mejzlick 16x8 and running on WildCat 10% Premium Extra. My daughter got this one for me for Christmas in 1991, she paid $449.00 for it, they have come down in price, Thankfully

Jim and Bill, thanks for your replies. I haven't seen the engine yet. I do know he did not any exhaust with it, the rear bearing is rusty, and the prop hub has been held with pliers and is distorted.
Doesn't sound good to me.

Since you have to pull it down for the bearings just check the bore. The 150 is 1.33" bore, 1.41" is the 180 bore.
