OS 65 LA first impression...
1 Attachment(s)
Hi all.
After a couple of mounths of thoughts and engine comparing,i bought an OS 65 LA. This engine is from on installed in a Greatplanes Extra 300 ARF 40 size... So, today i run my first 3 tanks through it,and wow [X(] man, what can i say for it... I AM IN LOVE WITH IT! Mmmm, here how i begun: I filled the first tank with fuel (10% nitro,18% castor-synthetic oil). I opened the high speed needle 2 turns out from fully closed position. And i primed it. Closed then the throttle and then opened it 4 clicks. I don't have a starter so i started my engine with a chickenstick.!:D 3rd flip and engine started with a big white smoke coming out from the exhaust. I advanced right after that the throttle to fully open position. Running rich and the throttle in fully opened position i run 3 tanks of fuel through my OS 65 LA. I am really really pleased that this MAD engine will be better than best,as i expected to be. To just mention,i have also an OS 46 LA,one and a half year old,and a NIB OS 91 FX. YES YES, I AM AN OS FAN,but... why not to mention that? Hehe. Looking for your oppinions and your pics.. Kostas Greece |

Now Kostas, think about it turning a 13x8 3 blade at 9,000.

RE: OS 65 LA first impression...
Let me ask you sth.
Em,i have a 12oz.tank in my Extra, and wow, this powerplant eats a lot of fuel. I think i left without any drop of fuel in the tank after 8 minutes, running my engine rich! Do you think this is normal? I mean as my engine break-in fuel consumption will discrease? |
RE: OS 65 LA first impression...
Your running it very rich for break in.
It will get better economy after you lean it a bit. Your not going to fly at full throttle all the time anyway. You using full throttle and rich settings for break in. You'll have the engine leaned and you'll be flying around at various throttle settings when you fly the plane. Mileage will increase. |
RE: OS 65 LA first impression...
Too rich???
Because i have the high speed needle 2 turns out? Anyway,i thought it must be rich enough so as not to overheat during break-in. Do you have an OS 65 LA? |

ORIGINAL: Kostas1 Also here are another 2 pics of my engine-plane. Enjoy ------------- I noticed that Tower was selling blue mufflers separately. Why didn't OS provide the buyer with a blue muffler to begin with? And a blue carb? I'm glad that you like your OS .65 LA, Kostas. Statistically, someone had to. <wink> |
RE: OS 65 LA first impression...
The 65LA ist the best LA! It has almost the Power of the 61FX and performes similar to the FS70 Surpass with bigger Props.
The 65LA that I had ist still alive in a friends plane. This engine runs on almost every fuel and forgives every punishment. Can be used without Nitro. |
